Telltale at San Diego Comic-Con: The Wrap-Up

Posted on July 2013 by TelltaleGames

In a word (or two), San Diego Comic-Con was freakin' incredible! HUGE thanks to all The Walking Dead fans who stopped by to chat with us, and especially those who lined up for hours to see the special panel on Saturday afternoon with Telltale co-founders Dan Connors and Kevin Bruner, PlayStation's Don Mesa, and The Walking Dead creator himself, Robert Kirkman.

If you couldn't make it out to San Diego in person, don't worry, you haven't missed out! You can see the panel highlights in the video below (warning, contains Season One spoilers!).

If you haven't played The Walking Dead Season One yet, there's just one spoiler-free tidbit you should know. On August 20th, PS Vita is getting all five episodes of The Walking Dead Season One, PLUS the 400 Days DLC episode. Even if you’ve already played through Season One on PS3, you can earn an additional set of Trophies for playing the series on PS Vita as well.

For those who HAVE played The Walking Dead Season One, you might be wondering if we spilled any details on Season Two... well, we did (stop reading now if you don't want to know)! Dedicated fans lined up to tease a little more information out of our storytellers on stage, and when a fan cosplaying as a certain 8 year old girl in a baseball cap asked if we'd ever see Clementine again, our very own Dan Connors confirmed for the first time that Clementine will definitely be a part of Season Two. Beyond that, he wouldn't say more!

Yep, Telltale Games is headed to San Diego Comic-Con! Telltale, Skybound and Future Publishing are teaming up on this one, so all The Walking Dead goodness is contained in one single glorious booth. Come visit us and check out The Walking Dead: 400 Days! Or you can just say hi. That's cool too.

As if that wasn't enough, we're also doing a Walking Dead panel on Saturday July 20th at 4pm. Join Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead franchise, Dan Connors and Kevin Bruner of Telltale Games, and Don Mesa of Sony Computer Entertainment America as they look back at Season One of Telltale's game series and look ahead at what's to come. Your moderator will be none other than Greg Miller of IGN.

There may even be a few hints on what we can expect to see next in The Walking Dead universe and the Telltale game series, so if you're at the show, it's one not to miss!

Bill Willingham talks The Wolf Among Us

Posted on April 2013 by TelltaleGames

We asked Bill Willingham, the creator of Fables, if he'd like to share a message with Telltale followers across the interwebs. Happily he said yes, and now we have a whole blog post without having to write it ourselves! Here's what he had to say about The Wolf Among Us

Bill Willingham, Fables creator, talks about The Wolf Among Us and Telltale Games

Let's start with a confession. I'm not the world's greatest expert on videogames. I like them, or at least some of them, but I'm not good at them.

But I'm pretty good at story (sorry for the indelicate bragging), and I tend to be fairly protective where my own stories are concerned. Okay, maybe I'm not quite the mother bear level of protective. I've never ripped the limbs from a camper to protect my cubs, but I’m willing to learn.

So then anyway, when Telltale Games made its deal with DC Comics to turn Fables into a game I had one overriding concern. Would they get the story right?

Fables has been shopped around for a movie or TV show almost right from the launch of the series. On two different occasions the possible, maybe, could be deal (which is as far as most projects go out there) resulted in scripts for a Fables TV pilot (and in each case the script was never filmed as a pilot).

In both cases, when I was eventually allowed to read them, the scripts told me the same thing: whoever wrote these stories never read Fables, or didn't like what they'd read, or simply thought they'd do something different to put their own personal "stamp" on the story. Even the one that was a pretty good fairy tale story, in the most generic sense, was a lousy Fables story. Except for using some of the same names for characters they bore little resemblance to the Fables comic book series.

No surprise then that I was most worried about their fidelity to the Fables story, when I heard a deal had been reached to adapt Fables into a Telltale game.

The surprise ending to this tale? The men and women at Telltale got the story right. They know the true story of Fables frontwards and back, so well in fact that I went out of my way to reach a separate deal with Telltale, not only to do what I can to help direct the story of their game, but to make the story in the game canon in the greater Fables fictional universe. That may seem a pretty bold step to take, but their in-game story merits it. It's brilliant to the point of there being far too many moments of, "I wish I’d thought of that."

One more confession, and then I'll let you get back to the rest of this page. Part of my deal with Telltale is to catch their Fables continuity mistakes and make sure they remain true to the original story and characters. But they've made so few mistakes I fear I'm stealing their money. They know the material so well, and remain so true to it, I don't have enough to do.

Maybe I could make snacks for everyone in the break room?

What do we have in the Poker Night 2 pot?

Posted on April 2013 by TelltaleGames

Winning is good, but what good is being Pockets McMoneybags in Poker Night 2 if you can't show off your imaginary wealth? Worry not! In-game unlock rewards mean you can deck the entire Inventory in the theme of your choosing - Portal, Borderlands, The Venture Bros., Army of Darkness or Sam & Max - so you can rub your winnings in those losers' faces!

Of course, in-game unlocks are fine and dandy, but you can also show off your elite pokering skills in other games and other places. Depending on the platform you're playing on, you can win and unlock cool stuff for Borderlands 2 (consoles/Steam), Team Fortress 2 (Steam only), Avatar Items for Xbox 360, or some sweet (and completely exclusive) PlayStation 3 themes.

The Unlocks Showcase trailer here explains it all, and features a few more sneak peeks at what we'll see at the Inventory in Poker Night 2!

Poker Night 2 ups the ante in April

Posted on April 2013 by TelltaleGames

This is no bluff - Poker Night 2 is coming in April! Some of the biggest personalities in gaming, film, and animation are going all-in on XBLA, PSN, PC and Mac.

Taking the fifth seat at the table, players will be joined by an all-star cast:

  • Claptrap from Gearbox Software's critically-acclaimed and multi-million selling Borderlands video game series

  • Brock Samson from Adult Swim's animated series The Venture Bros.

  • Sam from the Sam & Max video game and comic book series by Steve Purcell

  • Ash Williams from the cult classic movie Army of Darkness. Groovy!

Players at the table will be assured of a fair hand dealt under the unblinking gaze of a Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System from Aperture Science research facilities, otherwise known as GLaDOS (from the Portal video game series by Valve)!

Poker Night 2 will also offer the chance to win 'Bounty Unlocks': rewards for use within other games when special goals are achieved. With cunning and skill, you can unlock prizes including exclusive skins and heads for use within Borderlands 2 (Xbox 360, PS3 and PC), character accessories for Team Fortress 2 (PC only), unique Xbox 360 Avatar Items, and Premium Themes for dressing up PlayStation 3.

So... who's in? Check out the official site here!

The Wolf Among Us is unleashed this summer

Posted on March 2013 by TelltaleGames

We've been keeping this one under wraps for a while, and today we're excited to announce that Telltale unleashes The Wolf Among Us this summer! Based on Bill Willingham's award-winning comic book series FABLES, the season will debut on XBLA, PSN, PC and Mac.

A consistent New York Times bestseller and winner of over a dozen Eisner awards, the FABLES universe has become one of the richest mythologies in comics. Storybook characters like Snow White, The Big Bad Wolf and Pinocchio are real, and living incognito among us in the mundane ("mundy") world. Of course, their heritage means they are not quite like us...

Set prior to the events in the first issue in the comic book series, The Wolf Among Us puts players in the role of Bigby Wolf, a man once more infamously known as The Big Bad Wolf. Now the sheriff of Fabletown, a hidden enclave of exiled Fables living in New York City, Bigby is tasked by bureaucrat Snow White to keep order within the society of mythical creatures and characters trying to remain undetected in the world of the mundane. From a chain-smoking member of 'The Three Little Pigs' to a car-thieving Mr. Toad itching for his next wild ride, The Wolf Among Us examines the lives of beings straight from the pages of myth and lore, now trying to survive on the meanest and grittiest streets of New York City.

Our very own Dan Connors, Telltale's CEO and Co-Founder, said this week: "Developing The Wolf Among Us based on the FABLES universe has allowed our studio to build upon all of the hallmarks of what makes our episodic series so engaging for players. Through an evolution of our approach to choice and consequence, we can further explore the complexity of each and every iconic character in a universe rich with untold history from the darkest sides of the storybooks."

The Telltale team can't WAIT to unveil more about this upcoming game series as we inch closer to its expected summer launch. For more news and updates, stay tuned right here to the Telltale blog, follow @telltalegames on twitter, and don't forget to check out our new page on Facebook for The Wolf Among Us for updates and images as they become available.

The Walking Dead Episode 5 Stats Trailer Out Now

Posted on January 2013 by TelltaleGames

The credits have rolled. The tears many of you shared with us on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter have dried, and the gross snotty Kleenex have been tossed away... but it's not quite over yet! If you're emotionally prepared to relive the major decisions in Episode 5 of The Walking Dead, check out the stats trailer for 'No Time Left'

This video highlights just some of choices the majority of players made in the season finale. Obviously gigantic spoilers here, so don't watch unless you've already completed the episode!

Playing Dead Episode 9 Shambles Out

Posted on January 2013 by TelltaleGames

In the final episode of 'Playing Dead', host A.J. LoCascio talks to devs Sean Vanaman, Jake Rodkin, and Sean Ainsworth about 'No Time Left', the emotional conclusion to The Walking Dead game's first season. You'll also hear Robert Kirkman's thoughts on the series and the choices he made in the final episode, plus the one and only Dave Fennoy details the process of becoming Lee Everett and his thoughts on Lee's fate at the end of the season.

But wait, there's more! As a BONUS episode, we share a very special chat with legendary voice actor Terry McGovern, otherwise known as Larry from The Walking Dead. Terry has been a teacher and an actor in the field for over 30 years, and in this very rare sit down, he talks about what it was like becoming the oversized curmudgeon Larry for the game. Fans of Star Wars, Back to the Future and Duck Tales will want to listen in on his adventures as well. Fun fact: not only was Terry the voice of a Stormtrooper in the original Star Wars releases, he also voiced Launchpad McQuack!

And finally... we want to say a HUGE thanks for your support over the course of 2012. This was an incredible year for Telltale, due in no small part to you (yes, YOU)! We simply cannot describe how much we've appreciated your support and enthusiasm.

Get ready for an exciting 2013!
