Those are a lotta casual reminders.

  • Being a fan of something doesn't mean you're going to defend it with everything you are. I love Star Wars but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna point out the flaws in the series or praise the prequels as masterpieces, and in the same way with Telltale when they make a mistake I won't give them a pass. One thing I'd like to say is that I was introduced to Telltale at a very stressful time in my life, and their games for better or for worse made me feel a lot better in general.

They were a good time and well made, and it was nice to see such diverse characters. So because of that, for the past 5 months, each time Telltale screwed up I've tried to brush it off and not really make a big deal out of it. I've made passing remarks every now and again, but I've constantly tried to keep a level head about it. For me, making a writing choice like this was the last straw in a very long list of screw ups they've had very recently. A few days before this I had made a bit of a short rant about the state of the website, so I was already losing my patience as is, but this was what really set it off.

Either way, criticizing a company or being frustrated with them when you're a fan of what they do is not hypocrisy. It's a normal thing people do.

  • Honestly it's not fair to be rude to Sean for his decision to leave Telltale. Some people just wanna move on to bigger things. I don't think we should necessarily blame anyone either. No one person is responsible for this, there were just a string of bad decisions by multiple people that could have been avoided. But what're you gonna do? The most we can do is call them out for it and hope they accept the criticism.

  • I was sleepy as hell when I wrote that reply, so I'm happy it's written coherently, let alone fairly :D But, yea. I mean, we've had 2+ years of 'Kenny vs Jane' arguments, there's really no need to be up in arms and start fights over it anymore. People like who they like, they're both dead now anyway, so let dead dogs lie, as the saying goes.

Jane is also well aware that she would become a walker and attack Clem and AJ

See, that's the part that gets to me. She clearly cared about Clem and wouldn't want to see her hurt. Yet, Jane took the entirely selfish way out and forced Clem to kill her. Jane had to know that hanging wouldn't be the end. I suppose one could argue that preggars depression had set in, so she wasn't thinking clearly. Who knows.

You don't need to wear a condom to pull out.

I read that that method doesn't always work, which might've been the case here. Presumably, Luke didn't have the self control for that anyway. If what little tidbits of the fire discussion were anything to go by, it's been a while for him. Then again... that really begs the question on why Jane would risk that in the first place. Not just pregnancy, but the entire group was put at risk while Luke wasn't keeping watch. It really was a dumb decision on both their parts.

You know, I have defended Telltale a lot. I loved Season 2 despite what some people have said and have defended it, I defend the way they handle choices for the most part, I defend the way they make games. But this...it's fucking inexcusable. I'm not even the biggest fan of Jane, but I found myself giving the middle finger when I saw what they did to her, it was awful, I can't even imagine how Jane fans felt during that. It was completely out of character for her, not only to commit suicide, but to abandon Clem like that. It's stuff you would see in fanfiction, not the actual published game. And Kenny, while emotional, was almost equally pathetic. And to do it in a 4-5 minute flashback, it's a disgrace to both characters. I found both episodes great, but how the endings were treated really soured the first one especially.

Look at the writing credits for this episode, all of them are highly talented writers, and they thought "Yeah, this is good," and some of them were people who worked on Season 1. Brad Kane, Pierre Shorette, Nick Breckon, Nicole Martinez, Meghan Thornton, Mark Darin, they approved of this. I just can't understand. Unlike others, I won't say Sean Vanaman and Jake Rodkin were the heart and soul of this company, that without them Telltale is nothing, and I'm also not going to say any of these guys are terrible writers. But come on, I expect better from you guys.

  • But she chose to hang herself, a method she should've known wouldn't have worked. All she had to do was shoot herself, less suffering than asphyxiation, and less traumatic for Clem.

I agree with everything you said besides the "it was out of character for Jane to kill herself" part. You also talk about "abortin

I don't think people realize this, but spending time and resources dragging out these flashbacks that don't really matter to the actual story this Season is telling would be really counterproductive. The fact that they even decided to fully remodel (quite terribly, though) two characters who weren't really needed to tell this Season's actual story impresses me.

Jane, Kenny, and Edith's deaths were in character for them, and each felt like it's own. Complain all you want, but depending on your ending you got a different scenario from everyone else.

Jane got frightened and overwhelmed with the fact that she was going to have a baby. In Season 2 she shows to feel uncomfortable with "Rebecca's situation", and I believe she even mentions how she could never bring a baby to this world. She also shows her aversion to getting stuck to people and things, and having a child would do that to her, making the thought of having a kid unbearably uncomfortable to her.
And then there's the fear of being eaten from the inside out or even dying during labor. Jane's pregnancy wouldn't have been a happy one, she knew that. She'd not only become a liability to everyone around her and herself, as she knew very well that the odds of the baby actually making it were very low. They had no doctor, they had a baby to take care of and Jane would most certainly be in a lot of stress.
So Jane was now going to have to be stuck with a kid for life and would have to go through a pregnancy which would most likely result in the baby dying and eating her from the inside out. She found herself conered.

It was very emotional, at least for me. It leaves you wishing you could've done more, it has you looking on how the future would be if she had decided to bring Luke's baby to the world, it's dark and depressing, so very on theme for this series.

    _

Kenny's flashback was also on character for him. That whole scenario reeked of recklessness and stupidity, also known as everything Kenny stands for. Now, not trying to get Kenny fans riled up here, but we all know, he was not the brightest... He leaves the twelve year old to drive in high velocity for the first time unattended. It would obviously end on a crash.

Now, it's also a very emotional one, with him talking about a bright future and all, seeing him lose the sensitivity on his legs... I'm, errrm, not the best person to evaluate the emotional value of Kenny's death. Not a big fan of him.

    _

I think you (and others) are being overdramatic as hell, I can understand wanting more from Kenny and Jane, I do, but deeming everything else shit because of the 3 minute flashback scene is not fair. The Season so far has been great and it seems to be going on the right track. They even brought back the Season 1 hubs ( something very, very, very requested by people here on the forums ); subquests, talking with people, puzzles.

I'm liking A New Frontier so far, and I refuse to make tantrums shitting over the whole Season, and hell, the whole company and what it stands for, just because of a 3 minute scene.
117 great minutes are more important than 3, arguably bad minutes.

  • I... I really don't understand how Jane dying an unfair death made you hate her more. That doesn't make a lot of sense.

  • Kinda surprised a lot of people agree and respect your opinion and I agree too. Even though I wasn't a Kenny fan, I feel bad for his fans. They handled his death in a really stupid way. I loved Jane and her death was even worse to me. Completely out of character.

I saw this coming to be honest. Just, when I looked at how many different endings season 2 had. They probably would end up doing 5 minute clips for each season 2 choice. While I didn't see coming Kenny's and Jane's horrible death scene (who would have even predicted those shitty death scenes). I predicted right that Wellington would get attacked and Clem needs to escape. Everything leads to the same point. You will be alone and Clem will end up coming across Javier.

  • Your comment is completely fair despite me not agreeing with most of it, but I have to point out that I mentioned multiple times in the post that it was not just Jane/Kenny I was pissed about, and listed off many more reasons I'm pissed at Telltale. And even if I didn't have more reasons, it isn't just a "3 minute scene". They did the exact same stupid thing they did in Season Two. It's completely unacceptable to do that twice in a row.

GoT? it was ok, Batman? meh, Minecrat? lol yeah right.

now i know i havent explained why im mad but its the same reason EVERYONE IS, that BULLSHIT DEATH. yes DEATH, plural, i havent even watched the Jane one and just by reading it, it made me even more sick. C'MON, seriously, why?! is it so fucking hard? is it too difficult to at least have them live for ONE EPISODE? JUST ONE? nah man, this shit is inexcusable, i really think yall need to give these people's money back. loved yall TT, and ill definitely buy your OLDER games on sale. i bought TFTBL for like 2 buck, and both WD games for like 15 thank to sales. not worth full price if this is the type of shit we are gonna keep getting. hope the rest of the season goes well and i hope this ends the series.

I liked the inclusion of flashbacks, and I really didn't mind at all that Jane/Kenny bit the dust. I thought it was neat enough I got a different scene from someone else. Not sure what people expected. Pretty good premiere all around.

  • Why would they kill Kenny in such a dumb way? Why did they need to kill Kenny at all? Couldn't the main hero be Kenny or Jane?(depending on choices) Was that that hard to didn't fuck up the whole series?

  • They're just very short and lack alot of gravitas given how they were set up in a prior season. The problem is that the deaths and contrived scenarios feel rushed and underdeveloped from a direction and writing standpoint.

  • I thought Jane's worked well for her character. She saw what Rebecca had to go through, her sister. She didn't want to drag herself down or worry about protecting someone she loves, and that she made. That's just me of course, but I liked it. We got some emotion and fear out of Clem, and it made sense for my Clementine to act the way she does. I haven't seen the other scene's yet, but didn't mind it at all.

Alrighty, so we all need to chill the fuck out for a second. Not the people who have been calm and rational, and haven't resorted to insults, you guys are fine. This is a comment addressed to the people throwing huge freakouts and anybody who enters this thread in the future.

This thread was not made to force you into thinking the way I do about things. This thread was not made to say everyone else is wrong and I'm right. This thread was not made to piss anybody off. This thread was made for discussion. I vented my frustrations on Telltale because of my recently growing sour outlook of them, and I wanted to get a discussion going about the situation.

I haven't made an actual thread in 8+ months, so I completely forgot the fucking backlash this forum's members can sometimes output, so needless to say I was not prepared for it. But I want to say I don't want you guys to absolutely agree with me, if you do that's cool, if you don't that's cool as well. All I ask is that everybody is respectful about the situation. If you agree with me, present yourself in a calm manor with why you do, I understand most of my comment was anger induced raging, but I have since calmed down and while I do think the same, I'd definitely word it differently if I had the time to go through and write a second version of the post.

If you don't agree with me, that's completely fine. But all I ask is that you politely disagree and maybe even make a constructive argument with why you disagree with my points. Calling me a neckbeard, rage fueled internet dweller or calling the people here hypocrites for agreeing with me is kind of douchey and unnecessary. Yes, I'm calling out 2 users in specific but not to deliberately insult you, I'm using your comments as examples. I have nothing against Cope or TheVigilante and I'm sure they'd be great people if I got to know them, but for now I'm using their comments as examples of what you really shouldn't respond with.

I'm not offended by any of this and I don't take it personally, but people need to chill the fuck out. Including me, which is what I've been attempting to do in regard to this subject. I'd just appreciate it if we could have a calm discussion about this and talk about the game, what it did right and what it did wrong without being jerks about it. There's no reason for that. I understand a lot of people here have been civil, and to you guys I appreciate that. But to everyone who hasn't and any future members, I'd ask that no matter what your views on the episode are or how you feel about my opinion/how I presented it, you respond in a respectful manor. Or don't. Do what you want. I don't fuckin' care. I'd just appreciate it if people were a bit more chilled out.

  • Seriously, what is your deal? I'd really like just once for me to respond to your comment and not have it turn into a pissing match. You don't get to dictate how I feel on the subject nor do you get to dictate when this ends. Of course I'm not going anywhere because I love these forums, I am however no longer interested in this game. You tell me to get over myself, but you're the one on the high horse for no damn reason. I never personally insulted you, nor did I intend to. You don't need to be so rude, man.
