PETITION FOR TELLTALE TO STOP LYING ABOUT TAILORED GAMEPLAY.
Any one else think we should petition TTG to remove the disclaimer from the beginning of their games when the story is not tailored to our gameplay? It would stop a lot of the complaining if they removed it from TWD as we all know the game doesn't tailor to our gameplay anymore. These games are just linear now, even if you go with a different character to a certain location because all that changes is dialogue.
For me, the disclaimer should ONLY be used if.
1) Dialogue options branch out more than two lines before carrying on with the script.
2) Relationships change depending on how you talk to people, or if you save one character before the other.
3) The change in opening or ending depending on your choices actually changes the outcome of the episode or beginning.
4) Choices mattering: Choices should matter outside of dialogue options. See, the flashbacks for season 3 where Clem got scars, those scars will not effect the story in anyway whatsoever so they might as well not even be there. But they should. Clem maybe should get headaches which put her in danger as a result of the scar from the car crash. She should use to tattoo to convince AJ that she cared about him. She should have difficulty holding weapons with her missing finger, or problems with her hand in general.
What I don't want is more of this.
"She's New Frontier Javier. We can use her to get inside."
"No it's wrong."
"It's a good plan I have, but to convince you, I'm going to threaten to shoot Gabe if you don't help me."
"She's New Frontier Javier. We can use her to get inside."
"You're right Conrad. Let's use Clem to get inside. I am with you 100%"
"Okay, Javier, I'm so glad you're on my side, but I'm going to threaten to shoot Gabe even if you help me."
None of that please.
Comments
The last TWD game to be tailored to our gameplay was season 1.
Nope, because it ain't a lie.
It is.
I'd call it a hyperbole.
Good talk.
lol petitions
They're not going to read that petition.
They're not gonna read it. They're too stupid.
Why doesn't Telltale understand?
Season 1 was their best-seller. Their sales are decreasing with each game they're releasing.
Just make another game like Season 1... with tailored gameplay, good story, etc.
Maybe they want to move on with new "ideas" but how they can't see that their new story isn't "working"?
This community becomes more toxic each day.
It is not.
Marija gets it!
SO, WHAT'S THIS PETITION MEME YOU KIDS ARE SPREADING AROUND?
There is no new idea. They are just being lazy with everything. Story is extremely weak, the forced positivity (tripp elanor) and a very unnecessary romantic interest are all products of laziness. They dont want to work hard anymore it seems.
Getting is good! I'm happy that I got it! Love brother xx!
It's both a lie and an insult.
I would like to attach a Rider to the petition that asks for Telltale games to announce release dates two months in advance and another Rider which brings Lee back to life.
We're only in the first two episodes, you can't say that. In every other game it hasn't been a lie. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Isn't this tantamount to false advertising? I mean they said there'd be 42 starting points with unique Clementine's and they said the premiere was too big to fit into one episode. Both of these things were just cash grabs in order to get people to buy the game.... that is false advertising correct.
The game is tailored by how we play. Perhaps not to the degree that we would wish, but, nonetheless, the narrative changes depending on our decisions. Nobody can deny that.
I would agree if you're on about S1, but that simply isn't the case in S3. Besides the flashbacks, what has been tailored to our choices halfway into S3 so far? Barely any determinant dialogue scenes/dialogue choices compared to S1 and 2, Clem's the same no matter what, you join TNF no matter what you chose, your relationship with Tripp stays the same whether you lie or not, your relationship with Kate stays the same no matter what you chose, Kate and Gabe's relationship stays the same regardless if he poured alcohol onto her open wounds or not and there have been no optional side quests.
Yes, the game slightly changes in the moment, depending on what we pick, but no way does the narrative change depending on our choices.
As much as a single variation in dialogue means that the game is being tailored by our decisions, Daze. Every choice has a consequence, even if it is minimal.
I couldn't come up with anything clever.
Really? Have you played a different season 3?
Conrad threatens to shoot Gabe regardless of your choice. Thus changing the narrative from what?
The game isn't tailored to how we play.
Choices in a different game.
Feed the Goldfish.
Don't feed the Goldfish.
Result: Goldfish likes you and remembers your kindness and will help you later on.
Goldfish does not like you and someone else feeds it. He will not help you.
Telltale Game
Feed the Goldfish
Don't feed the Goldfish.
Result: Goldfish dies anyway.
Goldfish dies anyway.
We are not even half way into Season 3 lets wait before we jump to conclusions. I also don't think Petitions really do anything or help.
I hate to be that grammar guy, but here's the definition of "tailored" in regards to this game:
"make or adapt for a particular purpose or person"
Our choices certainly don't make or adapt to anything. I'm not denying that what we chose doesn't affect the game for a few seconds (although most dialogue options result in the same response anyway), but in the long run they mean jack shit. The story is not adapting to our choices if they have no long term effect, cos that essentially what 'adapting' is. My point is that we are literally half way through the season and everyone's story is the exact same right now, because our choices don't tailor anything.
Conrad died determinantly? That was determined by our choices! Therefore, the narrative has been changed because of our decisions.
It is as simple as that.
Something changed due to something the player did, and the game has technically been tailored by the player.
The Walking Dead forum is getting more toxic
Well, we technically are already halfway through the season. They said it for themselves, both parts of Ties That Bind were originally one episode.
I don't know, I think we maxed out a month or two ago.
Yeah, but Conrad is going to die or do little as possible in the next episode before he dies though so all we did was kill him one episode earlier.
And so how do we get Conrad to not threaten Gabe when we side with him? The choice comes after.
But you're right. We killed a character that Telltale was going to kill anyways. Our choices matter.
That is a false choice, one made to give the impression of our choices mattering
Kenny shooting and killing Carver in Episode Two A House divided. THAT would be a choice that effected the narrative. Killing Conrad doesn't.
Ikr. A petition
Fucking hell how am i going to sleep tonight
I said that the story is tailored by how we play, and that is objective information—which is different from saying that "our choices matter," which inevitably carries a subjective judgment about how much variation is necessary to say that a choice matters.
I would go back six months any day.
But killing a character who is going to die regardless isn't effecting the narrative.
Neither is siding or going against that character as Gabe will still be threatened regardless.
And letting us pick dialogue might be considered tailored, but as the dialogue doesn't really effect anything it's pointless. Characters will like the player or hate the player no matter what you say to them, even if you are mean or do something to win them over.
This conversation is finished.
Have a nice remainder of the day, Anthorn!
Seeing people hating on season 3 makes me so happy.
It's Twenty to Nine here.
Now, I will concede I am wrong if by killing Conrad someone else like Tripp dies because Conrad isn't there to save him, but as that won't happen and Conrad is going to die in the next two episodes.
Anyway. Have a good day yourself.
