Is The New Frontier Worth It?

It looks like an alright game, and the only reviews I've heard either love it or despise it.
I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not to buy it, so I have some questions that will help me decide.

Does everyone die? Like the first two seasons. No specifics on who dies, I just want to know whether I'm going to get invested in a new cast just to see everyone of them die no matter what I do, b/c if so than I probably won't bother.

Do choices matter? Not just the big choices, but even little stuff during conversation?

If choices don't matter is the story at least good? Like with TWDS1 when you really break it down, choices don't have a huge impact on the overall story, no matter what Lee will get bit and die, Duck will get bit and Kat will kill herself, Ben will get torn apart by zombies, and Christa and Omid will always make it out at the end, but the story is so good that the illusion of choice doesn't matter.

Do choices from previous games at all effect this one? (Excluding the Jane and Kenny Choice from S2, I already know that one doesn't matter)

How is it compared to S1 and S2?

Where would you rank it among the Newer Telltale titles like GoTG, GoT, TFTBL, TWAU, and Batman?

Thank you for answering any of these questions, I really appreciate any help in helping me decide my purchase.

    Does everyone die?

Depending on your choices, no. There's one character in particular that you can keep alive throughout the whole season, which is a pretty impressive feat for Telltale.

    Do choices matter?

Some do. Some don't. It is much better with its choices than Season 2 though.

If choices don't matter is the story at least good?

That's pretty subjective, so I can't really answer that for you. You'll have to play the game yourself if you want a clear answer.

Do choices from previous games at all effect this one?

Not really. The final choice of Season 2 affects the relationship you have with one certain character and certain physical mark on Clementine, but that's about it.

How is it compared to S1 and S2?

I really enjoy it despite its flaws and the amount of hate it gets from the community, but I'll admit that it's definitely the weakest out of the series.

Where would you rank it among the Newer Telltale titles like GoTG, GoT, TFTBL, TWAU, and Batman?

Not sure. I definitely think it's better than Batman and Game of Thrones and I haven't played Guardians of the Galaxy. When it comes to Wolf Among Us and Borderlands, not sure where it ranks.

  • No, eh, not really, barely, worse than Season One, and worse than GoT and Tales.

Best to wait for an 80% discount. That's how much I got the previous seasons for, and I can't justify paying more for New Frontier than Season One, especially since, it being a newer game, it's hard to tell if your computer set-up can run it properly.

    Does everyone die?

Depends on your choices. But it's not like how everyone does in Season 1 and 2.

    Do choices matter?

Some don't, some do. It surprisingly that choices that better than the ones from previous games.

If choices don't matter is the story at least good?

No, I hate it so much because it's full of plot holes.

Do choices from previous games at all effect this one?

Only Season 2 endings. The ones from Season 1 never existed.

How is it compared to S1 and S2?

    A downgrade.

Where would you rank it among the Newer Telltale titles like GoTG, GoT, TFTBL, TWAU, and Batman?

I'd rank it as the worst Telltale game ever. Yes, worse than Minecraft Story Mode (I'm not even a Minecraft fan), Game of Thrones and Jurassic Park.

  • Is The New Frontier Worth It?

    no

  • Does everyone die?

Not everyone, but a lot of people do. It's up to you to decide whom shall be cast down to the ground.

    Do choices matter?

To some extent, yes. There are choices that matter a lot, but there are choices which are completely pointless.

If choices don't matter is the story at least good?

Depends on how nit-picky are you about the game. If you just go along with it (you know like, turn off your brains and play), then I'd guess the story is somewhat "good". But if you're the type of player that nitpicks about everything, then I'm afraid you'll find the story to be "utter shit" as some of the members here on the forums would call it.

Do choices from previous games at all effect this one?

Not as much as I personally would have liked.

How is it compared to S1 and S2?

Personally, I think it's (like I mentioned before) utter shit in comparison to Season 1, but kind of on the same level with Season 2, if not a bit worse. Still, it's somewhat enjoyable in it's own way.

Where would you rank it among the Newer Telltale titles like GoTG, GoT, TFTBL, TWAU, and Batman?

Well from what I've seen, I guess it's worse? But then again, I haven't played most of those games so I wouldn't know.

Is The New Frontier Worth It?

If you're lucky enough to get in on discount, then sure. But if you have to pay full price for it, then don't bother buying it. It's simply not worth it.

  • There are a number of good things in the game....but get it on discount.

Everyone has it's own taste. Some people like it some people not.

    Does everyone die?

Depends on your choices bur it's not so extreme like in S2 for example. I think.

    Do choices matter?

Not really. But it was like that since S1

If choices don't matter is the story at least good?

Again, everyone has it's own taste but my answer will be no. The story is full of plotholes and the characters are not interesting at all. I'm gonna compare this game to Michael Bay movies.

Do choices from previous games at all effect this one?

Only from S2 and it's just some cosmetic changes and a few dialogues are different.

How is it compared to S1 and S2?

It's like the worst elements of those games were combined into one game. That's only my opinion.

Where would you rank it among the Newer Telltale titles like GoTG, GoT, TFTBL, TWAU, and Batman?

Well, for me ANF is the worst TT game. Probably even worse than their Jurassic Park game

And finally your last question. I kept it for dessert.

Almost all the characters die ans theyre so bland and undeveloped that you probably won't care anyway.

You should get it and form your own opinion though

  • In my opinion it is worth it. I loved the experience and replayed it 3-4 times and I still couldn't get enough of it. There are a few technical problems but apart from that it is a solid game in my opinion. If you do decide to buy it I hope you enjoy it :)

  • Does everyone die?

99% of the determinant characters die. There's one character that you can keep alive for the whole season but they're pretty insignificant to the storyline.

    Do choices matter?

Not a lot do. An important decision you might make in episode one will probably be forgotten about in episode two. I'll explain it more in the next question.

If choices don't matter is the story at least good?

The story was all over the place, my friend. The storyline wasn't worked on by ONE group of writers, it was worked on by FIVE different groups of writers. So one group wrote episode 1, and another group wrote episode 2.

In my opinion, the introduction was good. Everything that happened after that was, I'd say, below average.

Do choices from previous games at all effect this one?

No. Clementine acts the same no matter what. She brings up Lee once, and I think Kenny or Jane depending on who you went with. Thats literally it though.

How is it compared to S1 and S2?

I'd give season 1 a 8.5/10. I realllly enjoyed the game but I always see things that can be improved.

Season 2, 6.5/10. It nearllyyy hits the 7 mark but not quite. It started off good, but like season 3, the story went in a bunch of different directions. The ending was good though.

Season 3.. I'd give it a solid 4/10. If it weren't for the good voice acting, it would've been a 3/10.

Where would you rank it among the Newer Telltale titles like GoTG, GoT, TFTBL, TWAU, and Batman?

I didn't even finish GoT. I'd say personally that ANF was slightly better than GoT, but thats it. GoTG, TFTBL, Batman and TWAU are all better than ANF.

Is the new frontier worth it?

If you're getting it for free, sure. I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends though.

  • Take my advice, don't play it. I am not saying this just because i don't like it but put it this way, if you felt as strongly for how good Season 1 was as i do, then S3 will disappoint the shit out of you. 1 hour long episodes, 90% cutscenes/dialogue choices, only 2 or 3 (if not less) gameplay sections, choices are lazy as in they hardly matter except maybe only through one or 2 lines of dialogue and then it's completely forgotten about for the rest of the game unlike in Season 1. Um what else? Oh of course, little to no character development/interaction.

I suggest watching gameplay vids on youtube instead of buying it if you are interested to see what it's like. Save your money

No,it is not. It is one of the greatest robberies in video game history.

If you dont believe me, here you are :

    .

  • If choices don't matter is the story at least good?

Yes. Its not as tightly written as the first season, but better than season 2 and not boring like Michonne

    Does everyone die?

No. Though a few characters can die depending on your choices.

How is it compared to S1 and S2?

Better than Season 2, but not as good as season 1.

Is The New Frontier Worth It?

Imo yes it is. I don't think its the garbage fire that most people around here claim it to be. If you are fan of the previous seasons, and don't mind the change in focus of a new main character, then you will probably like ANF just fine

  • It is one of the greatest robberies in video game history.

    Nice hyperbole.

  • Does everyone die?

Not everyone, but most of them will depending on your choices.

    Do choices matter?

Some of them do, but not as effective as S1. Only very few choices affect your ending.

If choices don't matter, is the story any good?

Its all over the place. If you like those kind of stories, than you're going to like this game. Friendly advice: go in with low expectations.

Do choices from previous games at all effect this game?

Nope. Only the ending you got from S2 slightly affects this game, with that being Clem's appearance. It acts like S1 never even existed, which was ridiculous.

How is it compared to S1 or S2?

Its definitely not on S1 level, not even close. Don't take those who say ANF was better seriously. As for S2, it's around the same, but S2 was a little better because of the first two episodes.

Is The New Frontier worth it?

Not really. If it's on sale, like around 50% or 70% off, then get it. Don't spend $50 for the game. It's not terrible like other people say it is, but it's not good either.

Okay time to repeat what everyone just said.

    Does everyone die?

No not everyone though that mostly depends on your choices. There's only one or two determinant characters that I can think of who dies no matter what you do. Unfortunately the payoff for most of the character's who's survival depends fully on your choices is really unsatisfying to put it mildly and without spoilers. There is one determinant character who can survive the entire season which depends on multiple choices you make across multiple episodes that fans on these forums keep raving about.

    Do choices matter?

    enter image description here
The way I see it some of the choices you would think wouldn't matter surprisingly have a lot of impact and some of the choices that should matter a lot to the story don't do jackshit.

If choices don't matter is the story at least good?

Eh in my opinion not really. Even if you ignore the plot holes, character incosistencies, painfully forced shipping and pointless fanservice the story just really isn't that memorable in any way. Not to mention depending on what ending you got in Season 2 you could be seriously put off from the story based on the first episode alone.

If I had to point out one thing the story does pretty well I would say it's the relationship between Javi and David. The scenes between them were definitely the most emotional resonating out of the entire game.

Do choices from previous games at all effect this one?

Aside from the ending choice of Season 2 (and believe me, whatever choice you made at the end of Season 2 could drastically damage your first impression of ANF) none that I can remember.

How is it compared to S1 and S2?

Sadly I'd say it was worse than Michonne, and I already place Michonne below the first two seasons.

Where would you rank it among the Newer Telltale titles like GoTG, GoT, TFTBL, TWAU, and Batman?

I'd place it at the bottom of all TT games past TWD unfortunately. It is better than Jurassic Park though for what that's worth.

Just because it is not expensive as like Mass Effect Andromeda etc... doesnt mean it is not a robbery. Still it is.

  • I think it's definitely worth a buy. I always think it's best to judge a game yourself. In my opinion it isn't nearly as bad as a lot of people say it is. Just give it a chance and form your own opinions.

Yes, train wrecks are always worth seeing.
