Walking Dead, Steam version, doesn't start in Windows 8 Professional. I read a post where unpluggin a Xbox 360 controller would help - which it did - but I want to play it with the controller. It worked like a charm in Windows 7.

  • Works for me...
  • I did it yesterday! Just downloaded "dinput8.dll" and put it on the "GameData" folder. On your case, D:\Steam\steamapps\common\the walking dead\GameData

Check this out and see if it helps:
    http://www.articlewritingclicks.com/Dll_Errors/Dinput8dll_Error__What_Causes_it_and_How_to_Fix_it.html

Basically says to update display drivers (there are specific ones for Windows 8 if you just upgraded and didn't know).

Also to refresh your directx installation if that doesn't work

    Hope this helps.
  • Whoa.

    There's a Windows 8?
  • Steam doesn't work very well on Windows 8 period. Plus, I didn't even know windows 8 was released to the public yet, only illegal copies and beta. How did you get into beta?
  • Beta is open, and certain businesses.
  • If I would've known that, I would've gotten it ages ago. Thanks.
  • Open as in available. Not as in anyone can download. I believe there was a a signup process. I know my job already has it.

Thank you! This did the trick, but I put it directly under "steamapps\common\the walking dead\" since the .exe file was there.

Thank you for replying. I don't seem to have any problems with Steam. All other games work just fine. I resolved the problem with the help from another reply. (I assure you my copy is perfectly legal).
