Sam and Max - Could not initialize Direct3D

posted by Ch3wyz0r on - last edited - Viewed by 1.2K users
I can't seem to get this game to work through HDMI due to this error. I've gotten a new cable since the last time I had it running but I've had no problem with any other games - including The Walking Dead.

It works fine through DVI but I'm trying to play it on my TV.

I've attached my dxdiag file.

    Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (30Hz)

The game might not like running at 30 Hz. You can try if switching to 60Hz fixes it.
  • Well that's not an option for my display if it's at that resolution(because it's 1080i I think?), so I tried to lower it to 720p so I could do 60Hz.

In order to do that I had to turn off duplicate displays... looks like that was the whole problem. The game doesn't like duplicate displays I guess.

Is there a workaround for this or do I just have to not use duplicate displays? The way I have my PC/TV set up this is a bit of an annoyance but at least it's playable.

There were issues with multiple displays in TTG games, so you're probably right.
I am not aware of any other workaround though.
  • Oh well, not a huge deal.

    Thanks for your help!
