Which game do you have problems with?

    • The Walking Dead

Please follow the instructions to run the TWD Support Tool and post the download link to the resulting "TWD_support_data_pc.zip" to your next reply in this thread.

        • It took me took a site with loads of pop ups and the one I was going to try and download my computer warned me about (it said the file had malicious intent) why?

I am sorry for the confusion. My regular web space is in maintenance and i posted the alternative links yesterday, not noticing that they are so heavily ad supported, that it is confusing were the real download is.
I have updated the description with new Backup download links that are less confusing.

Thanks. I can't see any crash event in there, or anything unusual.
What exactly is the problem you have with the game?
What happened leading up to the problem?
Do you get any error message? If so please post it.

                • When I open it via Steam it says "The Walking Dead - Steam. Preparing to launch The Walking Dead...".
                  Then it launches.
Then the screen goes black like it's going to start loading.
Then it closes and a message called WalkingDead101.exe saying "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...".
After a message called WalkingDead101.exe comes up saying "WalkingDead1101.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".

That should have showed up in the crash events in the support tool but weirdly it didn't.

I suggest you check for crash details manually:

Please check if the game crash creates an entry in the
event viewer in the "Windows Logs/Application" section.
If so, right click the entry, select "copy the details as text", and paste them in a new reply.

                    • It says Event 1000 Application Error, then under that it gives me two options.

                        Awesome. That's solvable.

Please check the properties of the Steam.exe, your Steam icons, and the games .exe files, and disable any compatibility mode settings.
Sometimes compatibility mode is checked, but is grayed out. Then you have to click on "Change settings for all users" at the bottom to disable the checkbox.
Afterwards try if the game works.

                        • How do I get onto the place where I change everything, because I don't know how.

You just right click on the Steam icon and select "properties". Then select the tab named "Compatibility". Look for the option that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for" at the top, and remove the checkmark by clicking on it, if there is one. Then click "Ok" to close that window.

                            • oh ok also should the version of windows under the box be windows 7?

It doesn't matter what's under the box, as long as it is unchecked.

                                • Ok thanks for trying, but it still didn't work.

I haven't given up yet. To make this easier please download and run this file.
It will create a file named "compatibility.txt" right next to itself, containing all compatibility mode settings that are currently set for executables.
Open the "compatibility.txt" by double clicking it, and copy its contents into a reply.

Hopyfully it will show the problem in a more reliable way.

                                    • I'm not sure if this is the right folder (probably is though)

While there are entries for The Walking Dead, they are probably not what causes the crash, but rather a result of the game crashing.

                                        Let's look at something else:

Please open the Steam client. In the menu select "help/system information".
Right click on the information it shows and select "select all".
Right click again and select "copy".
Finally paste the results into a reply message in this thread by pressing CTRL-V.
It contains a section "Installed software", which might have sensitive entries, so feel free to redact them.

Sorry, I messed up and edited your post above instead of replying :-/ Now I can't undo that...
I got the relevant information though.

                                            Operating System Version:
                                            Windows Vista (32 bit)

Steam is clearly running in Vista compatibility mode, which is known to cause this crash. I don't know why it wasn't listed above though.

Please do the same as you did for the steam icon, but on the Steam.exe in
                                            C:\Program Files\Steam\

                                            • when I go on the properties I can't find where to change the version

It should be the same as I described for the steam icon. Please describe the problem in more detail.

                                                • Wait actually I've found it :D Thank you so much :D Your a legend :D

I think we have explored all easy options. The problem is that for some reason your Steam starts in compatibility mode, although I can't find where that is stored.
This should be fixable by uninstalling steam, and reinstalling it to a different folder.
                                                    First exit steam.
If you have many games you don't want to download again, move the "SteamApps" folder from "C:\Program Files\Steam\" to your desktop.
                                                    Then uninstall steam.
While reinstalling, when it proposes to install to "C:\Program Files\Steam\" click on the button and change it to something like "C:\Program Files\Steam2\".
After the installation move the "SteamApps" folder to "C:\Program Files\Steam2\". You might have to verify the game cache files for each game you had installed.

please delete the prefs.prop files from
      C:\Users\family\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
      and
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam2\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default

      Also delete the DINPUT8.DLL from
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam2\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead

Then verify the game cache files](https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335).

I suggest you also update your graphics driver by installing the latest Catalyst software suite (not the beta).

Then please try running the game again. If it still doesn't work, please try unplugging the usb headset.

  • I followed the instuctions but sadly it still doesn't work

Please check if the game crash creates an entry in the
event viewer in the "Windows Logs/Application" section.
If so, right click the entry, select "copy the details as text", and paste it in a new reply.

I am not sure what causes it. The error code usually comes up if it's graphics related, but your graphics card should be fine with the latest drivers. I think it might be some other software interfering with the game. Please try starting it during a clean boot as described below. If that doesn't work either, please run the support tool again so i can see the latest state.

Booting clean in Windows Vista / 7:
          1. Click Start --> Type msconfig --> Press Enter
          2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
          3. Uncheck Load Startup Items
          4. Select the Services tab
          5. Check Hide all Microsoft services
          6. Click Disable all
          7. If running the game on Steam, re-check the "Steam Client Service"
          8. Click on OK
          9. Click Restart.
          10. After reboot, run the game to see if it works.

After performing the necessary steps, restore your settings by doing the following:

          1. Click Start --> Type msconfig --> Press Enter
          2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
          3. Click Ok
          4. Click Yes, when asked to restart your computer
  • Hello, I have same problem. It was working, but after updated Windows to 8.1, I start recieve this error.

  • I've ran the TWD support tool, and it says everything is okay. Yet I still get "WalkingDead101.exe has stopped working" when I attempt to launch the game. http://www.sendspace.com/file/62min2

"everything is okay" is just a message from the tool that creates the zip file at the end of the support tool run. The support tool just collects the information, it doesn't evaluate it.

      Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics
      Dedicated Memory: 64 MB
      Shared Memory: 1632 MB

The crash is caused by your integrated graphics chip, which doesn't meet the minimum requirements.
Intel graphics chips are not recommended and they don't work well with TTG's games.

      • Really? It's worked with newer TTG games, but I'll work on changing it. Thank you.

In most of these cases it is. Looking at it some more, you should try deleting the "SyncFs" folder from:
          C:\Users\owner\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

There's also a slim chance that installing the latest Intel graphics driver helps. That's a bit tricky though, and you should know how to recover to a running system in case the driver doesn't work as expected.

  • some thing happens to me

  • Hello, I have same problem. It was working, but after updated Windows to 8.1, I start recieve this error : "WalkingDead101.exe has stopped working". All drivers already updated. http://www.sendspace.com/file/c7kghi

You have a lot of files in
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead
That don't belong there and could break the game.

      Please delete all files except
      DirectX
      fmodex.dll
      installscript.vdf
      Pack
      steam_api.dll
      steam_appid.txt
      WalkingDead101.exe

Then please verify the game cache files.

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Name: AMD Radeon HD 7700M Series

Also make sure that the game uses the AMD graphics chips by checking the settings in the catalyst control center.

      • I did this and dosen't work. "WalkingDead101.exe has stopped working" still happening.

Please check if the game crash creates an entry in the
event viewer in the "Windows Logs/Application" section.
If so, right click the entry, select "copy the details as text", and paste them in a new reply.

The game is using your intel graphics chip, which makes it crash. As I said earlier, make sure that the game uses the AMD graphics chip by checking the settings in the catalyst control center.

                • I already did this... And it's using the AMD graphics chip... I try with other games and works fine... Alan Wake, Battlefield 3, BioShock, Dead Island, Grand Theft Auto IV, Left 4 Dead 2, Mafia II... All of them works fine with the AMD graphics chip.

                  • If i delete igdumdim32.dll it's gonna work ??

That would most likely break your system.
I notice that you also have a TV connected to your notebook. Please try unplugging it and everything else non-essential.

                      • I try and stil the same... Those are the errors that appears http://www.sendspace.com/file/4dkh1s

I am not sure what causes it. You can try some things though.

                          Please rename the savegame folder
                          %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
                          to deactivate it.

If that doesn't work, please create a new local Windows user account with only characters from a-z and try playing there.
If it still fails to run, please run the support tool again, in the new windows account.

                          • It doesn't work too... Here's the support tool in the new windows account = http://www.sendspace.com/file/xpe74j

                            • I try to rename the savegame folder and after delete the savegame folder. But when I run the game, the game still crash and the gamefolder appears again...

I forgot you were on steam. It automatically downloads the old savegames again.
Please disable steam cloud for TWD (In Steam, right click TWD and select "properties". Open the tab "updates" and remove the checkbox from "Enable Steam cloud synchronization for TWD).
Then try removing the savegame folder again. If that doesn't work, please replace the prefs.prop in
                                %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead
with the one in this zip archive.

One other thing your should try is going to the dell homepage and downloading and installing the latest Intel and AMD video drivers for your notebook model. Make sure you get the versions for Windows 8.1.

                                • I went to the dell homepage and download and install the latest Intel and AMD video drivers... And it works fine !!!
But I still have to put the Windows 7 Compatibility... But it's ok, now the game it's working !!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!! Your The BEST dude !!!!
