edited December 2013 in The Walking Dead

What do you guys think happened to Christa's baby ? I think she killed it and buried it at that makeshift grave site Clem walks past..

I don't think she killed the baby, maybe he/she died at birth and buried him/her at that grave site. (It doesn't feel right calling the baby an "it")

We don't really know. This is another lost scene, like the scene where we meet Mark before Episode 2 in Season One. Telltale are going to release some DLC showing us all this scenes or what? "The Walking Dead: Off the Record" or something like that? :(

Maybe she had a miscarriage, who knows.

  • Highly doubt that was the baby's grave.
Not only because of the fact that Clementine looks legit disorientated at her arrival to the site, but also because the trail Clementine took led straight to the camp, meaning that I doubt Christa and Clementine would have burried the baby to then NOT follow the obvious trail towards the camp.

The baby probably didn't make it, and if it did, not for long. There is barely any shelter or medical supplies to sustain a child at the location they were or probably have been, and it would only make Christa's depressing state so much more believable during the later stage of the game.

  • That's the word I was looking for. Sorry, English it's not my first language.

She probably had a miscarriage :c

  • She probably had a miscarriage :c

  • Dead baby inside of you sucked before the ZA. Surely would suck during it :I

  • It's highly unlikely that the baby survived, meaning that if it did some other group took it since we are 16 months after what happened in the opening scene. Either way, wherever the baby presumably died is far away from where Clem and Christa were in the woods. They did indicate that they have kept moving north so 16 months later the baby would have came due at latest 14 months ago. They wouldn't be in the same location that long.

  • I assumed she miscarried.

Actually now that I think about it, what happens if the baby died while developed inside her? Would it become a walker? I'm just picturing a zombie baby chewing its way out of its horrified mothers' womb and am freaking myself out now. Actually kind hope that happens to Christa 2.0 now just to satisfy my curiosity.

  • died of starvation i reckon..

all the supplies needed would of been pretty hard to come by,

    darn it more feels...

Or because we all hate her. (Probably the most likely reason)
Edit:Sorry, that comment was geared towards Rebecca. Should've worded it better.

  • It died. :(

  • I'm guessing it was a miscarriage.

  • Well in the TV show Lori was worried the Baby would rip her from the inside out :X ( because it could have died inside her)

  • A miscarriage is something that usually happends in the earlier stages of a pregnancy, as far as christa was due to her big belly, she would have been atleast 5-6 months pregnant already, most likely. A miscarriage rarely happens that late, and if it would, she would have not been able to get that baby out befor it was born, meaning she would have died from an infection. Specially when there is no doctor or hospital anymore. So the possibility is stillborn or born then died late of starvation, cold, or maybe taken by a walker etc. The last option is more likely.

I don't think withholding information like this is a wise move. Who were the two figures Clem saw on the horizon in the post-credits teaser? Are we left to assume they were Omid and Christa? What about Christa's baby? Are we also supposed to assume Christa had a miscarriage, simply because this is a horrible world and that's just what's supposed to happen?

  • Maybe stillbirth, maybe died very early life. Only "doctor" figure was Clem so if it survived birth would have died soon after. Doesn't make sense that Clem would walk past it's grave because the birth was I'd guess 13 months before and it seems they've been on the move all the time, constantly heading to Wellington, I assume Wellington Florida. Really I don't think the specifics matter, it's more potent if it's not specified because Christa is so distraught at 16 months, the player can guess but all that really matters is how Clem and Christa feel about it.

  • It can't be Wellington Florida. They're moving north to the cold and Florida is south and warm. They're in Georgia right now

  • Good point but it's the biggest Wellington I know, The highest Wellington I'm aware of is in Colorado. However you raise a good point, Savannah has similar average temperatures so I'm probably wrong with Florida.

  • Yup, I also think a miscarriage is unlikely. Still born would probably be the "best" option out of the possible options. Having a baby die of starvation or something like that seems even harder to me.

  • the umbilical cord provides all the needed nutrients, plus it's eyes are closed and it's pitch black in there anyway.
it would soak up the amniotic fluid, or be reprocessed by the christa's body.

  • Stillbirth would essentially mean the baby was already dead, and it would have turned into a zombie in the womb. (or during labour, which takes a long enough time(

  • It doesn't really matter; the baby is dead and that's all we need to know. With no medical facilities (for Christa OR the baby), no group, food scarcity, the threat of the walkers, and god knows how many other problems Christa and Clementine faced, there was virtually no chance of the baby surviving. Telltale showed a lot of taste not making it explicit HOW the baby died, and I think that's a good thing.

  • I have another theory.

Throughout episode one people are always trying to take Clem away from Lee because they believe they can care for her better, Loretta, the Stranger, Vernon even Omid and Christa themselves if you take them to find Clem at the hotel.

I think Clem and Christa met up with a group, possibly Tavia's community, where she gave birth successfully before the child was taken away from her. In conversation at the fire if Clem chooses the find a group option Christa will say how hard it is to find people to trust.

In the end the 16 months of missing time is hard to speculate on as literally anything could have happened but we can be sure it will be the story that has the most emotional impact once revealed.

  • Maybe it was stillborn?

  • I suppose that could have happened, but I find it hard to believe for two reasons: first, I don't think Christa would have left her baby with a group of people she didn't trust enough to stay with herself. Second, not letting the audience in on something like that would be narrative dishonesty, in my opinion, because Clementine would be aware of it and, as the character we control, we should know everything plot-related that she knows.

  • i wonder if it died during birth due to umbilical chord strangulation or if it just ended up starving to death........or was bitten.

I think that Christa either had a miscarriage, the baby died during birth, the baby starved to death, or the baby was killed by a walker.

  • I think it died of starvation. Not sure the science of it but as they are sitting around the campfire pretty desperate for food, it didn't look like they could barely support themselves not the less a baby

  • What he/she is saying is the baby was TAKEN from Christa, not that Christa gave it up. I think that is a good theory, Mookan. ;)

  • I'm sorry, am I missing something, I finished episode 1 a couple days ago, so I may have forgot, but what grave? I never saw a grave, I probably did but I forgot.

  • 100% agree

I think it died of starvation. Not sure the science of it but as they are sitting around the campfire pretty desperate for food, it didn't look like they could barely support themselves not the less a baby

  • I think the baby died on the road. No one is mentioning that Clem knew how to stitch herself up "Like Christa taught her" in the shed. I think it is likely that Clem helped Christa deliver the baby and had to stitch up Christa after the birth. There were no other mentions of scars or visible cuts on her that she could have practiced on and who better to practice on than a new mom? Given that they were both starving, Clem and Christa, I'd say she wasn't able to produce any milk because of a general lack of nutrition and they couldn't feed the baby and it died. Christa isn't the type to give up her kid. If someone tried to take it, she'd have died for it. It was her last link to Omid. Explains her severe depression too.

Footnote: The constant reference to 'hating Scavengers because they take everything' is a little hypocritical given that essentially Clem is doing the same thing but it could also be a vague inference that scavengers ruined the camp that Christa and Clem had or stole all the baby milk (if they had some)

  • You have to look around for it. You can find it just after Clementine is swept down the river and climbs onto the dock/pier thingy. It's on the left.

  • Christa's Baby Starved! Christa makes several points in episode 1 of season two that, and I quote, "If you don't have food you don't survive."
Powerful words. But this would be the most logical way for there to be no baby, and while pregnant the mother needs enough food for her and the baby, but in this scenario, she only had enough for herself.

  • Couldn't she just breastfeed it? Or am I missing something? Maybe her body couldn't produce anything due to lack of nutrients, no idea.

died of starvation i reckon.. all the supplies needed would of been pretty hard to come by, darn it more feels...

  • I hadn't considered that it could be the baby's grave but I do doubt it for a few reasons:

    1. Clem didn't say anything or make any comment about the grave after having seen it,

    2. The grave was near that family's campsite so I think it's more likely it's a member of that family

    3. Although we don't know what happened or when it happened I'm going to assume Clem and Christa have been on the move since Omid's death and haven't been hanging around one area for too long (this is sort of talked about in the beginning if Clem says "we have to keep moving" and Christa says something like "that's all we ever do is keep moving") so unless whatever happened is very recent I don't think they'd still be all that near to where the buried the child if indeed he/she was buried.

I'm guessing she lost the child in some way. Not sure how PG she's supposed to be in the opening prologue but she looks very late term and unless I'm mistaken I don't think miscarriages are likely that late term. Still-born is a possibility. Or the possibility does exist that the baby was born healthy (or what passes for healthy in the zombie apocalypse) and either died later or was kidnapped/taken in by someone. Although I'd have to assume if Christa found anyone or anywhere she felt comfortable leaving her child she'd have stayed there too.

I can almost guarantee we're going to find out about this at some point and my gut tells me it isn't going to be a very happy revelation :-/

  • Good observation about the stitches! I think the next few episodes will clarify what happened during those 16 months.
