"Cannot communicate with Telltale servers"

posted by DimitriSafarikas on - Viewed by 611 users

Just bought the game this afternoon and I'm very frustrated to discover that I'm blocked at the login stage. I receive the message "cannot communicate with Telltale servers".

My specs are high enough, my OS is Windows 7.

I tried the following things (as stated in the many posts of this support forum) :
- Regedit (by deleting some key in the registry)
- Loging in with either my username or my email adress. This method sometimes brings a different error message which allows me to chose between "sign out" and "exit", which gives me a little bit of hope ...
- De-activating my firewall & my antivirus which in turn makes the game "freeze" once I get the "cannot communicate with telltale servers" (this must be a clue !).
- Re-starting my computer
- All of the above simultaneously ...

... To no avail

My next attempts will involve :
- Ask you if I need to send a "log" file of some sort to further investigate my issue (and also, where to get it)
- Trying some voodoo spells, like painting my computer with blood of a three-headed monkey
- Reading the comic books while holding my mouse and my keyboard and pretend very hard that I'm interacting with the story

Thanks for taking this issue more seriously than I am !

Can you please clarify which one of our games it was that you purchased? After receiving this information, I will be able to assist you further with your issue.

    • The game is "The wolf among us"

Please try launching The Wolf Among Us again, and you should be able to login after a few attempts. You may want to try alternating between your Username and Email address.

If you have played The Walking Dead and are now trying to play The Wolf Among Us, but your account fails to login, please select Sign Out, and log in again. If the game fails to authenticate, Exit the game and relaunch. You should now be able to connect without having to login.

Please also make sure your password ONLY contains a-z, A-Z, and 0-9 and no other characters. If you have any "!" or "&" or any other different characters, please change your password on our website, and you should then be able to then login to The Wolf Among Us.

Lastly, this may be an issue with your registry. Please open a command window. (Below are instructions on how to open a command window)

Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "cmd" and press enter

Windows Vista / 7: Press the Windows key. Type in "cmd" and press enter

Windows 8: At the start screen, type in "cmd" and press enter

Then copy the command line below and paste it into the command window, press enter, and confirm the question (to confirm the question, type “y” and press enter):

        REG DELETE "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Telltale Games\Launcher”

(Please make sure when you copy the above text that you do not copy a space before or after the text, as that will produce an error message)

Please then try launching The Wolf Among Us again.

        • Hey! I'm having the same problem. Followed your steps for seeing if there's a problem with the registry and received this message: "The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value." Help!

It sounds like you may have accidentally added a space before or after the command line. I would make sure to hit backspace once or twice to make sure there are no spaces at the end, also you can use the arrow keys to move the cursor left and right, and make sure there aren't any spaces at the beginning either.

After doing this, hit enter, and the command will successfully adjust your Launcher folder. Then restart the game, and you should no longer receive this error.
