Walking dead does not play second chapter.

posted by rschacht on - Viewed by 13.8K users

I am playing walking dead. I played it though once and wanted to try again. When I get to the second chapter all I get is a blank screen. I uploaded a file to SendSpace.

I ran TWD_PC_Support_Toll.exe and upload the result to:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/2tjldg

I hope this is the correct place to upload it.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please rename the prefs.prop file in

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default

to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then restart the game, and your game save should be restored.

  • I am having this very same problem. We get a blank screen (except for the axe icon in the middle left) and hear music...but game won't play the second chapter. I tried the solution that helped the previous user and it didn't work. Any help, please. The game runs though Steam.

It seems that you properly disabled the other prefs.prop file you had. If you are still experiencing issues, I suggest moving that prefs.prop file from the Pack/Default/ folder to an external storage device (off of the computer) and then start the game again. If you still experience this issue, that prefs.prop file may be the correct one. I would then switch that prefs.prop file for the current file in

          C:\Users\Ron\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead

and back up the prefs.prop file from there to an external storage device, and replace it with the one you disabled earlier. Please make sure to rename it prefs.prop after moving it to the above file location. Then start the game again, and see if your saves are restored.

          • Ok, did everything you said and I still have this issue. Anything else we coud try?

I even deleted the game from my Steam client and re-installed. Went to launch and still same error. It even does this on my other computer...is this a Steam game save issue?

After looking over your support tool, it seems that you have an extra prefs.prop file. Please rename the prefs.prop file in

                    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default

to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then restart the game, and your game should be restored.

We believe to have resolved the download issue for iOS users. Please restart your device, and restart the game application, and you should now be able to download Episodes 2-5.
      • Hi! I can't seem to download episodes 2-5 of The Walking Dead. I restarted my device, restarted the game application but nothing seems to be working. I've done this about 4-5 times already. Any other way I can download this? Running on OS X 10.9.2

Can you please clarify if you are playing the Telltale Games version, or the Steam version of the game?

          • Hi, I'm playing the Telltale Games version. Bought it on this website. I'm not sure what I am supposed to do, i tried following the instructions on the comments below, but it does not work, need help for this! I paid for the game, and I'm not getting the gaming experience I want.

Please try deleting your SyncFs folder from your

              ~Library/Application Support/Telltale Games/The Wolf Among Us/ file directory,

and then restart the game, and you should receive any of the necessary updates to make Episodes 2-5 available to download.

              • Where do I find the SyncFs folder? Can you please assist me with this? Thank you!

My apologies, your Library folder is sometimes hidden, to make it visible, please open a Finder window, and at the top of the screen, click Go and hold down the Option key. The Library will now become available in the drop down menu. Click that and follow the above file path, and delete the SyncFs folder.
                  • I deleted the SyncFs folder and when i clicked "Get" for Day 2 under Download Purchases, it says connection lost, but I had connection.

Unfortunately this may be caused by the high amount of customers attempting to download from our servers at the same time. My only other recommendation would be to restart your computer, and reset the internet connection by turning it Off, and back On again, then start the game again and try the download a few more times, and you should be able to download the episode.

                      • Hi Mike! I did what you said and deleted the SyncFs folder and now I can't open the game anymore.

My apologies, I would then recommend uninstalling, and reinstalling the game completely. (Please note that your save files will not be harmed in the process.)

  • Yeah episode 2 won't start for me either. As soon as I press play, the screen goes blank.

I already tried renaming the prefs.prop file with .bak
Instead of the screen going blank, music plays and an axe icon appears (like the other guy). I also did everything you told biggiedaddy44, about moving prefs.prop to an external external storage device and that didn't work either.

Can you please clarify if you moved any files after creating that support tool file? If you have moved other files than just renaming the above prefs.prop file to prefs.prop.bak, please run the support tool again, and upload your file, and paste it in a reply here, and I will be able to assist you further.

  • I'm sorry but that didn't work either, same blank screen and axe icon.

  • This problem is happening with me but on my Mac computer. Not through Steam...

After looking over your Support Tool information, it seems that your computer is running below the minimum system requirements to run the game successfully. Where we require a minimum of 512mb of dedicated memory, your computer is currently running at 256mb of dedicated memory. Your computer uses an integrated Intel graphics card, which we do not recommend using for our game, as they tend to run under minimum specs. I recommend either trying to update your current graphics card's drivers to the latest version, and see if you are able to play, or try playing the game on a computer above minimum system requirements if you have the ability to.

If you are able to start the game, you can also try changing the game's resolution and graphics settings to a lower setting, and then continue the episode, and see if your issue is resolved.

  • It says Permission Denied in Terminal. We went to System Preferences and allowed for us to get files from anywhere, but that didn't work either.

You will need to disable Gatekeeper - To do this, click the Apple logo on the top toolbar and select System Preferences. Now select Security. If the padlock in the bottom left corner of this screen is not open, click on it. You will now see 3 options for downloaded applications, they are: Mac Store, Mac Store and identified developers, and Anywhere. Please select 'Anywhere' and then confirm your selection. Once this is done, please attempt to download the game from our website. You should no longer see the 'Permission Denied' messaging.

  • Gonna assume (pray) this thread is still monitored, I got the same problem as the guy above with the game starting chapter 2 with a black screen, axe in my inventory and music. I tried the fix of changing the prefs.prop to prefs.prop.bak but it just succeeded in wiping my data (hooray). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, still didn't work.

  • I'm having the same issue as well. When I start the second chapter, I get a black screen, I can move my cursor, and the axe icon on the left side of the screen. I tried renaming the prefs.prop file to prefs.prop.bak but that didn't work. Here is my file from the TWD Support Tool: https://www.sendspace.com/file/df96gd

Hopefully, you all can help fix this!

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please rename the prefs.prop file in

      C:\Users\Mark\Desktop

to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, and your save files should be restored.

      • Nope, still goes to the same screen. I had moved that file out of the SteamApps folder when it was created after renaming the other prefs.prop to prefs.prop.bak. Here is the new Support Tool File:

My apologies. Please try moving the prefs.prop.bak file from

          D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default

to the directory where the other prefs.prop files are, and rename it to prefs.prop. (Make sure to rename the other ones to prefs.prop.bak, and move them to a folder on your desktop. Then restart the game and see if that is the correct prefs.prop file associated with your saves.

          • I deleted the prefs.prop and prefs.prop.bak from the Documents\telltale games\the walking dead folder and copied the prefs.prop file from D:\SteamLibrary over to that folder. It seems to be working now and the choices carried over (at least in the intro video). Thanks!
