I agree with this 100%! Clem is not a kid anymore, and I don't think any cognitive or moral devlopment theories apply to her anymore. Clementine could be immoral and ruthless, and that'd be understandable after all what's she been trough, but she's not. It doesn't get to her, not in the sense of "If they do it, I must do it too" and that's because Clementine matured early. Clementine is smart, she knows her own boundaries and she's developed her own sense of values.
Unless other times Clementine has witnessed murders, she's now fully aware of the situation, having experienced Carver's tyranny in first person. The guy was a real villain, and he deserved punishment. It's comprehensible for people like Rebecca, who lost her husband and was persecuted by Carver, and Kenny, who was brutally beaten to the point he lost an eye, to punish Carver. As the achievement for that scene says "Rehabilitated-Gave what you got." it was justice for me. Was it necessary for Clementine to watch, though? Probably not, but if it means it will toughen her up, then she's welcome to stay by all means.
Clem has seen a lot of shit happen before her eyes. she was there when Lilly shot Carley, she walked through bloody places where p… moreeople were cut into pieces to be served as a dinner, she saw a man having his head crushed by a salt-lick, she killed the stranger to save me(in my gameplay at least), she had to shoot the man (in my gameplay at least) who protected her during most of her post-apocalyptical life.
It's hard to tell man! but Clem has already lost much of her humanity during S01. but she never lost her sense of justice and her love for those who are closest to her. Carver's death really was nothing new to her at all.. That's why Carver saw potential on her. the difference is that Carver uses violence and brutality to impose his motivations and subjugate others. Clem only uses violence to defend herself and to survive in this world. she is not a psychopath.
Not just leadership skills, but the brutality that Carver feels is needed to survive in the world of TWD. Watching his execution j… moreust proves him right.
But I guess some also lack the imagination to understand they are role-playing a small girl, and would have her acting like their favourite FPS persona if they could.
I agree with you. Kenny did some fucked up shit, but Clem cant afford to be a child anymore. The kids who stay kids die or get peo… moreple killed. Duck, Ben, Sarah, and even Clem are guilty of that. When her group falls apart she is going to be alone in a world full of cannibals, rapists, and survivors who cant afford to give a fuck about her. My choice to have her watch isnt going to win any morality points, but hopefully it will harden her enough to help her survive when the friends she depends on are gone.
You all make great points but i feel like i should respectfully disagree.
I didn't stay and watch Kenny kill Carver, mostly because i felt like that was unnecessary. The one-eyed redneck with a crowbar was killing Carver anyway, what was the true point of watching him die? To show you are brave?
Yes, Clem witnessed alot of messed up stuff, but this time she is choosing to watch a man be brutally killed in front of her. Carlos had two broken fingers and had to slap his own daughter because of Carver, but he didn't watch Carver die.
My point is, i know Clem is tough, but she's a human being. I remember when my Lee walked away from Andy St.John because he didn't want revenge to get the best of him, and my Clem dosen't need to witness more unnecessary death.
On a side note, that death scene was pretty awesome.
that seriously screwed with me i am terrified to see clem become a bad or cruel character...im thinking maybe once rebbecca has her baby mayeb clem will redeem that peice of hummanity she lost with that scence because i did have her watch it but the main reason i ddi was so she could stay with rebbecca i personally didnt want to leave her alone i knew sarah would be with carlos and i wanted her to be there to protect rebbeccca but i didnt think it owuld lead to this..options!!!! I NEED MORE OPTIONS TELLTALE!!!
I agree with ArthurMatrix, Clem didn't need to see that. I think that if you stay when Kenny killed Carver that what Carver says kind of foreshadow the future for her and that she probably goes dark in some way. "You go with that feeling you got right now, Clementine."
And if you think about it, she hasn't gotten to grieve over Lee, her parents, or Christa. It has to be eating her up inside. Clementine does blame herself for Lee's death and possibly Omid's. (Christa probably blamed her, you can infer that by the way she looks at the gun and then Clementine in episode one)
So yeah, there is a huge chance that dark/evil Clementine is going to become a thing. Even though she's already pretty messed up from what she saw in these past two or three years in the apocalypse.
I don't think we'll see a evil Clementine coming... just if you play like that... I think that Clementine is born to be a leader and she will discover it.
Again, The whole Season 2 has been an issue that Clementine isn't in control of her own life and that Ep5 is going to give a choice of "Survivalists Vs Community" In order to start creating your own independent personality. That's what Lee's death was for.

A small girl who's been 21 months into the apocalypse and has witnessed things that could turn any adult crazy. I think you're understimating Clem.
Yeah I did.
Not only it will harden her but it'll also strenghten her relationship with Kenny, once they both want him dead.

That's funny. xD
He beat out Kenny's eye and possibly caused him brain damage. Almost killing him. Sooo, he kind of did almost beat someone to death.
Pretty sure she is. She never really had time to grieve over her parents, Lee, or Christa. And she probably just has those emotions bottled up.

May I ask why?
Because 4/20 blaze it #yolo

Uhh I don't get it........
The biggest hint towards Clementine's repressed evil was from this scene, I think.
