Launch problems.

Tried to start up season 2 and my monitor went black. In the top left corner, my monitor kept notifying me as it randomly switched back and forth between "Analog" and "Digital" for no reason. Not even sure what that means. My monitor then acted like it was asleep and the blue light on the outside of it blinked. The buttons on my monitor stopped working and I couldn't attempt to get my monitor to snap out of it until I closed the game. The sounds of the game were there, and it acted like I was normally navigating the menus, as I could hear my mouse pass over the options, but all I saw was a black screen. Restarted my computer, same thing. Tried launching another game on Steam and no problems. What is going on here??

I apologize for the inconvenience. If you can hear the sound effects, it may be a graphics/display issue. I recommend starting the game again, and when you get to the black screen, try switching to Windowed Mode using the Windows shortcut (Alt+Enter) and see if you can then see the menu successfully. If you can, please go to the Options menu and try changing the resolution and graphics settings to a lower setting, and then you can try switching it back to Full Screen mode.

Well, that seemed to work, but why on Earth would I need to lower the graphics settings all of a sudden? I've played season 2 through till episode 3 without a hitch. Why am I suddenly getting this bizarre issue?

My apologies, it is possible the later episodes may be a bit more graphically intensive, and if you are running on a mid-spec computer, this issue may occur. Again, my apologies for any difficulties this causes you, I hope that you enjoy the game!

  • My computer can definitely handle The Walking Dead. It can handle games like Battlefield 3 and Dark Souls 2 on their highest settings without any reduction to frame rate. When I put TWD season 2 into windowed mode, I can put all the graphical settings to their highest with no problems like before. But as soon as I activate full screen mode, the screen goes black and I get that weird, continuous switch between "Analog" and "Digital" on my monitor. I really don't want to have to play this game in windowed mode when I shouldn't have to. Do you have any other suggestions? Episode 4 is coming soon and I don't want to still be struggling with getting my game to work properly when it's out.

After looking over your support tool information, your computer should be able to run the game fine, and your file structure looks to be set up correctly. Below are a few more possible solutions (You may have tried a few of these already, but I will post all of the potential solutions for you to try):

    1) Ensure you have the latest drivers for both your graphics card, and your computer’s BIOS

    2) Restart your system

    3) Unplug your gamepad (and all other USB devices other than keyboard/mouse) and plug in headphones to the audio out jack.

    4) Verify your cache if you purchased through Steam (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335)

    5) Run the game as admin

    6) Run the game in compatibility mode (right click on game, click properties, click compatibility tab , and we recommend running the game in Windows 98/ME ) (We recommend Windows 98/ME)

    7) Reinstall the game

    8) Make sure that the Steam application is not set to a compatibility mode (right click on steam and click properties, then check compatibility, and make sure that it is not checked to play in a different OS)

  • I have an HDMI cable hooked up to my computer and connecting it to my TV. Could that have anything to do with this display issue? I'm not sure why it would, since I've already used this setup to play The Walking Dead season 1 on my TV and it worked perfectly, but maybe season 2 isn't compatible or something? It's definitely worth noting since apparently the "Analog" and "Digital" modes my monitor switches around are related to HDMI somehow. When I tried to run season 2 on my TV the same way I did with season 1 (and other games) it would do something similar to what my monitor does. While my monitor switches between the two modes, my TV would act like there was nothing to display and have the "HDMI1" channel indicator on it, as if the cable wasn't hooked up to it at all. In short, season 2 has some kind of display issue whether I try to run it on my computer or on my TV, both of which result in the sound disappearing and the screen failing. I always seem to get these insanely convoluted and unheard of issues. I just want to play the game.

Thank you for providing the extra information of your issue. We have not heard of this particular issue occurring before. I will make sure to pass it along to the team. Unfortunately as of now, my only suggestion would be to play in Windowed Mode if that works for you. My apologies for any difficulties this causes you.
