The GOG Thread

posted by Rawr on - last edited - Viewed by 370 users
I couldn't find a general GOG thread via the search, so here we are. Can discuss the site, what new games have been added, and if there's any sales or good deals on.

Now, for the more important part! GOG have started their holiday sale, with pretty much everything on the site being 50% off. Also you can get Empire Earth Gold Edition for free for a limited time only.

  • I have almost every Good Old Game worth getting now (221 Titles including all the free ones), thanks to the christmas sale.
(And some I don't have here, I got for ridiculously cheap on Gamersgate a while back)

Literally this is my wishlist now:

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (No expansion packs in this one makes me cautious, will likely buy anyway once I get paid)
Magic Carpet (No expansion packs in this one makes me cautious, will likely buy anyway once I get paid)
    Bloodrayne (I heard its alright)
Bloodrayne 2 (Not a very good game, but there are much worse one's out there...)
Pod Gold (I like more PC racing games. Something different to have fun with)
Heroes of Might and Magic (Got 2-5, so this one is on here for completionist sake)
Dark Reign 2 (Got the first one)
Battle Isle: The Andosia War (Got the other ones)
XIII (Already had before once on PS2. Not a bad game. Would like to play again for a bit)

I think I'm going to not buy a GOG till next Xmas I think.
I now have to wait for the releases to catch up to me! XD

Plus I have to make some time to play all of these awesome games! :D

I think what draws me to Good Old Games is:

    - The DRM-Free philosophy which I love
    - Providing a convenient outlet for gamers to experience the classics of yester-year. This is not only important for allowing Gamers to develop and identify themselves, but is important for the Designers of tomorrow. To have a cheap and convenient resource to study and learn from.
    - FANTASTIC customer service
    - The awesome extras most games have
    - The convenience of installation of most games
    - The fact that old PC can run most of these games fine

I think once I play many more of these games a bit more, I'm going to start to recommend and kind of review a few.

I hate you for making me spend more money.
I know right? Him and his arsing fancy words! To his testament I bought The Witcher 2 and it's bloody alright. The Last Express is good shit though, enjoy!
  • Has anyone ever dropped GOG support a line before? I just sent an e-mail using their system to them (twice), and got redirected to the question type page after clicking continue, with no confirmation message at all. Is that normal?

just open up the witcher2.exe and it should launch without any issues. Atleast, that's how I used to load the game up, since I got sick of having to load up the launcher each time.
A-haaaa! That might help. Trying it RIGHT NOW. ;)

/edit: Nope. Where do I find that exe??

It's in the bin folder in the installation directory. Default should be C:\Program Files (x86)\The Witcher 2\bin\witcher2.exe (Not 100% sure, as I never install it to the default). Just create a shortcut for that witcher2.exe and use the newly created shortcut instead of the "Start The Witcher 2" one which is created on installation.

Got it, works great. Thanks! ;)
  • Read on my Facebook that Divine Divinity is 50% off. And if you have plans to play Divinity 2 this game has to be on your list of games to play.

I have all 3 of their games in the series. Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity and Divinity 2 and they all pack great humour and different play styles but they are all 3 great games. But Beyond Divinity do take some work a rounds to actually get it to work, but I might know a few things about that as I had all the problems. :p
  • I just joined up to GOG to take advantage of the free Empire Earth, and found some other free games too :). I was upset that I missed that deal on Broken Sword from a while back.
  • Anybody here who doesn't actually own copies of any of the Gabriel Knight, Space Quest, Ultima, King's Quest, Broken Sword, Police Quest, Myst, Tex Murphy, Simon the Sorceror, or Zork games and want to play them (or even just a standalone game like Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, The Last Express, or Planescape: Torment), now is the time.

Behold, the 2011 Christmas Sale at Good Old Games.

Beyond just GOG, there are also FOUR indie game bundles running right now: The Indie Gala, The Indie Royale Xmas Bundle, The Intermediaware Indie Game Christmas Bundle, and of course, Humble Indie Bundle #4, which includes such gems as Cave Story+ and Super Meat Boy.

    Gotta love holiday discounts!
  • Damn, I would've bought The Incredible Machine if I hadn't just bought the Humble Indie Bundle 4. Oh well.
