I remember the animation team using this as reference:

It's still loud, but this guy recorded it indoors.

If anyone tried it or at least held the broken piece of porcelain from inside the spark plug, does it feel heavy at all?

I mean, porcelain is usually pretty light, but fucking hell, the window just... disappears.
  • Yeah im curious about the weight of this ceramic as well.

I knew it worked but it's loud. It didn't really seem like the best solution when you're trying to sneak around zombies.
Well the writers clearly have little perception of how sound works.

On top of shattering the glass, they used a pillow to dampen the sound of a pistol so some zombies on the balcony above them couldn't hear. (I think the devs just wanted to teach you about the porcelain trick instead of letting you use the pillow+pistol in the window too).

And then Lee and Lilly couldn't hear a thing from Ben, their watchman, who was sitting just outside their door when a group of bandits lined everyone up for shooting.

I thought it was just the motel that was cursed. And then I heard Kenny clearly shouting from two train carts away when he saw the collapsed truck ahead. I was like "WTF!?!"

Weight has nothing to do with it. It's all about the hardness of the porcelain compared to the window.
  • The aluminum oxide ceramic is a 9 on the Mohs scale, while tempered glass is 6.5. From what I understand, the smaller the piece of porcelain, the quieter the impact. Which begs the question, does the same thing happen if you throw a diamond chip at tempered glass?
  • They are called Ninja rocks for a reason
  • It was a pretty cool trick anyway. But it is a game, so their perception is going to be slightly off, but it varied it up a bit instead of just shooting the window with the gun and pillow. But I do agree that it was quite loud when Lee threw it through the window, but nevermind.
  • Well I'll be damned, and here I was suspending my disbelief as much as possible for this scene. lol
  • Many a junkyard windshield has suffered the wrath of this sparkplug trick
