Some would argue: there is already a character that meets these criteria - Ben.

We all know that TWD game turned out A LOT better than we all expected, and quite frankly i would be upset if telltale's first break through game didn't take full advantage of reviving such an old and beloved genre of gaming. There are plenty of rumors of more episodes and games. I and many others are extremely excited for this, but first i REALLY wanted to get in a few VERY important suggestions. The first being of utter-most importance on throwing in an aspect that is completely missing in TWD game, and that is...

    Your Character

After playing through the game over 4 times, yes 4 times just to see different routes there has always been one thing i noticed through each play. I care more about whom is around me than whom i'm playing.

In this game the story is linear regardless of the choices you make. The only thing that changes based on those choices are the people around you. This is not a bad thing, but a statistic i would like to see is...Who actually chose to keep the last bit of food for themselves?

To give an idea of where i'm coming from is the absence of self preservation. At the end of episode 4 when Lee get's scratched I and many others felt almost nothing. When it comes to TWD Comics & TV show we are on the outside looking in and that is still the same story with TWD except we write the script. This is where my suggestion comes in which would DRASTICALLY change how decisions will be made if a new title is made.
    Suggestions
Now that you guy's at Telltale have gotten tons of experience, an engine, an awesome art style/originality, and an understanding of your audience this is the time where you push through and show us all your studio's true skills. I don't care if episodes only come out once a year, but the following suggestion has to happen.

#1. Let us choose our past & or profession.
We don't "Need" a create our own character screen, our own custom name, or even where we are from. What we need is something, anything that will let the player feel some kind of attachment to the main character.

I don't know Lee's past, i don't know what he did. NPC's know my story better than i do. I have no attachment to lee's parents dying, or killing "HIS" brother. I don't care that i didn't keep food for my self, and i saw no repercussions for doing so. No matter how hard i tried to imagine my self in his situation(s) it just didn't happen. I feel like nothing but a puppet master holding strings over lee's head. This aspect, if changed and done right will DRASTICALLY change how every decision and choice was made.

Let us at the start choose from a simple list of professions. Let us choose from a simple and summed up version of our "life". Whether it be "Rough" "Simple", or even "Mundane". Any kind of choice into letting the player find something of their own to attach to the main character. I understand this will be a very rough and hard development process, coding each choice into every episode and background, it will i promise you be worth it's weight in gold. I can go into this suggestion for pages and pages, but keeping it simple will work.

    #2. Personal repercussions & moods
?: Lee is feeling sick and hungry - Because of _____
?: Lee is tired and moody - Because of _____
?: Lee is judgmental & pessimistic - Because of ______

Let the list of what we can use to respond to situations be limited or even completely changed due to a previous decision or situation.

    #3. Personal Diary
Something used as a sort of cut scene in between episodes & well cut scene's. A way to shape your main character based on the PLAYER'S mood. Simplified kind of how a psychiatric asks "How do you feel about _____" then give the player a list of moods to choose from.

Example: Carley was shot in her face and ben just told you he bribed the bandits - How do you feel?

    A. Demoralized
    B. Enraged
    C. Depressed
    D. Ecstatic

?. Lee feel's demoralized because of Ben, Lee won't be too outgoing with his responses....

A good "Idea" or aspect of this can be taken from the game "Amnesia" which uses samples of the "heart" & "Brain"

To further this "idea" into a different route, let the player take a sort of test prior to getting into the campaign. A speed test, reaction test, & attitude test. Anything that can DEFINE the player. Remember this is a game, we play it to get involved because we can't with the Comic or the TV show.

    Simple Gameplay Suggestions

1a. Less jump scares that don't involve quick time
2b. Less movie cliche falling over rocks & fumbling for keys
3c. More random "Click" exploration to increase puzzle aspect ratio
4d. Less unlimited Ammo, & more first person quick time (tread carefully to not deter more casual players - Maybe adjusted with difficulty options?)
5e. Less making your character walk 100 meters to tell me "Yup it's corn"

#4. Randomizing the buttons used for quick time events
Pretty simple idea, give it a random number generator chance that you will need to use _____ & _____. Although, do not make each scene "Different" make it Random.

    #5. Basic inventory
Things you can choose to bring with you through out the episodes, i mean...we can obviously put a car battery in our back pocket. Now i'm not talking Ammo & food. This is a story based game, not an RPG but i liked the idea of choosing between the 3 weapons by the train engine. The issue with it was not having repercussion for choosing one over the other. Something small, such as the monkey wrench needs less "hits" or clicks on the zed but takes longer, the socket wrench needs more clicks but swings faster. ETC.

The little things like that will help drastically for the world immersion, but doing so without making it feel like an RPG.

    Conclusion

My post is already pretty big and i can probably go on for hours writing suggestions and ideas, but i really wanted to get the suggestion for main character attachment out there. I love this game & adventure games to death, i'm big into TWD franchise and just got done reading issue #104 and cant wait for S3E06.

This game has so so much potential to be bigger than it already is, and that's saying something because the game was an absolute hit. Just like how the show was a hit even in season 2 but when season 3 came out it blew peoples fucking brains out. This is your love child Telltale, lets see you grow it into a god damn legacy.

Have you ever read at least one book in your life ? (comics and tv magazines doesn't count)

Odd question, but yeah i'm pretty sure I've read more than my fair share of novels. I might not of read books in your library such as 50 shades of grey & twilight. Although, I'm positive the books I've read constitute as viable titles regardless of them not having your Oprah sticker guideline.

This is a game, not a novel. A game within a genre i'm sure you've never touched until TTG's TWD. So unless you have something worth taking note of, i suggest you find some where else to attempt your passive aggressive flaming.

I suggest you go play games that fall into similar genre's such as my first "Lighthouse the dark being" a less popular title. Or the more popular game "Myst"

Oh, I apologize. You two didn't yet get an introduction into the way people communicate to each other on this forum.

Short version: No insults, and no insulting back. At all.

Continue. And don't try to test the limits, because you're already there.

I tried to keep it as civil as possible. I apologize, i find passive-aggressive insults to carry more power than anything. 50 shades of grey + twilight is quite an insult, should of lowered it down to Nickleback fan. lol

I do hope he looks into the games I've suggested, for they are masterpieces of the genre. They might give him some insight to where my idea's stem from. Idea's i might add, that i don't take time out of my day to brainstorm together to have someone insult my literacy for reasons unknown.

It's a suggestion thread, and it's open to anyone for suggestions of their own(obviously).

No way.. another name for cripples in zombie movies is "zombie bait"......

Technically even Clem is that - she is short, weak and doesn't know much (for the obvious reason she is too young).

No, a ZA is all about surviving, and a cripple won't be doing that for long. Sorry.

(FYI: I have some really heavy glasses, and if I lost them I would be effin blind. That wouldn't go well in a ZA either)

I don't know why forum has ate my post when i was trying to send it but oh well i am too lazy to rewrite it all over again.

The game is telling the story of Lee Everett and it's not actually putting you as the main character,it's his story not yours.

Fast example : If your read LOTR book do you feel you are the Frodo ? No,because your perspective is not equal.Same thing here.

When Lee have to kill his brother you can imagine how he is feeling but that's not the same thing like letting player feels that it was his own brother, because it's not his story but Lee's.That's why your suggestions even if they are good they wouldn't fit to this way of storytelling.

    No flame intended.

Yet she's still killed more Zombies than Ben...
The whole point of the game is to TEACH Clemmy-clue .w.

On the talk of seasons, do you people thing season 2 will be the final season? or they'll make a season 3? or as much as Sam and Max has?

I'm sure they're going to keep it going for as long as it remains popular and making money.

that would be kinda making it like skyrim or Mass effect so... thats just my opinion
  • edited November 2012
    Nah.. Nice idea, though.
  • edited November 2012
So basically your suggestion is to completely change the game. That would be no way near as fun for the point and click genre, and it also wouldn't be great from a storytelling and logistics point of view. Telltale make point and clicks, not RPGs.

funny how i pictured a guy in a wheelchair stuck at the bottom of the stairs and zombies quickly eat him.

If the protag is gonna be disabled then there isnt alot of hope for surviving.

I would suggest a protag who has been through some of the zombie stuff already and has had to cut off 1 of his arms and legs but has been given a prosthetic arm and leg.(thinking about this makes me picture edward from full metal alchemist with his automail arm and leg)

Amusingly that's the first thing that popped into my head when I read this thread....

I'd actually be really up for this. I guess it would be hard from a gameplay standpoint, but especially a blind/deaf protag would be really cool. There aren't nearly enough games that portray people with physical disabilities in a good light.

Hm. Like "naturally" disabled people don't have prosthetics already.

It's unrealistic, as in Zombieland, the first to go are the fatties, the weak, the old and the crippled.

I think is Glenn, The guy on first episode that gone to save his friend.

I don't think it will be any Comic/Show character, I'm sure it'll be a new one exclusively from the game, like Lee is/was. I don't think it'll be Clementine, she's too young. I vote for Molly. Or maybe a new character which we haven't met yet. Then maybe Clementine for Season 3.

I think Christa would make an excellent protagonist especially considering her condition.

Christa? What? You have got to be kidding. Besides from the fact she's got the sort of face you want to punch repeatedly, I don't fancy playing an overly sensitive pregnant lady for an entire season. No, I think she's one of the weakest characters in the entire series. I hate her more than I hated Larry, and I smashed Larry's head in with a saltlick.

I'd like to see you play a homeless guy like Chuck: spending his time during the zombie apocalypse in a drunken haze, bumbling from one place to another. Maybe stealing supplies from surviving groups in his quest for boos. Also he wouldn't be very sociable and maybe he'd have a dog. He wouldn't be a leader, and you could have the option to play as an antagonist or a hero; not just a hero with varying shades like Lee.

I'm still hoping that Lee and Clem are going to return for season 2.

Lee amputating/slicing the infected hip off his arm, as the series goes on..PLZ I WANT LEE HE'S THE BEST CHARACTER EVER IN VIDEO GAMING.
  • edited November 2012
I hope there is a new set of characters and a new protagonist. I would love to have Lee another season, but since he's obvious going to die, I want a whole new group with new surroundings and things like that.
  • edited November 2012
Season 2 does need new character, the whole idea is that the protagonist is someone that you have no previous knowledge or prejudice of.

I think it would be good for season 2 to start in the middle of the apocalypse rather than the start, it will be difficult to give more difficult choices at the start of the walking dead. For example, I bet the number of people who would kill irene would be much higher now than when episode 1 was played.
  • edited November 2012
    It's going to be Molly.
  • edited November 2012
I think it'll be a completely new character for season 2 :D At least i really hope so and if any of our group make it to the end that they'll at least show up again at least once in the new season.
I know a lot of people won't like this idea, but say I think it'll be cool to have Ben as a main character and he'll be more mature and changed from the events in episode 5. I know that won't happen though because he can die
It'll be nice to have a teaser for the new season shown at the end of episode 5 too :)

    Edit:
I really hope it won't be Molly, I just can't trust her at all. I'll have to wait for episode 5 to see whether I'm right about finding her fishy...

I don't think we'd be playing as a character who we've already seen, because every character has shown a part of their personality and because of that some people don't like them already, hence they wouldn't want to play that character. We're gonna need another 'blank personality' character like Lee, whose personality the player shapes from the very beginning.

They are likely to make a new Character maybe a Female protagonist

It would be good if it were in a completely different location
Maybe somewhere colder like Alaska or they could go to another country like the UK

Nope has to be I Georgia at least seeing that's where the majority of the comics take place

what about a doctor or something similar? Someone who as generally always had to help people, and being in the hospital would sort of be throwing you in at the deep end. Lee had quite a 'gentle' introduction to the zombies.

if they have that it's going to be so tedious to wait Half a year.
