Doesn't download on Chinese servers

Hi, I just moved to China a short while ago and figured I'd go ahead and buy this game. Get a little bit of good ol' fashioned American (and english) entertainment for a change. The problem is the game won't download.

I purchased the game from the site and the sale went through and everything. But when I clicked on the PC download link the site took me to a "The connection has been reset" page. From my newfound experience, most American sites that don't work in China (such as youtube, for example) takes the unlucky websurfer to this confounding page.

I tried contacting Telltales customer support via e-mail several days ago but haven't heard back so I figured I might as well try on here to see if anyone knows anything about this. And, maybe, get lucky enough for one of Telltales tech guys to see this. I'm really hoping for this to work. Needless to say, I'm going to be very disappointed if the game can't be downloaded in China.

Thanks to anyone with any information on this issue.

  • So, nobody knows anything on this issue? It has been over two weeks since I initially bought the game, it was charged to my account, and I still can't download the game. I sent two e-mails to Telltale's customer support service and still haven't received a response. I am thoroughly unimpressed by Telltale's customer support.

I can't be sure why there are connection issues, but China has a reputation for doing weird internet censorship.

Have you tried downloading while connecting through a VPN?

There are free solutions like Hotspot Shield or Privitize you can try.
  • I had seen those VPN things before but all of them I had looked at were paid. I'll give those a try. Thanks DjNB. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  • DjNDB, you are awesome! Your suggestion there not only fixed my problem for downloading TWD, but it also fixed pretty much all the problems I had with using the 'net in China, including no access to Facebook or Youtube.

Seriously, thank you for the VPN link. That is going to make life a little easier for me on this side of the world, haha. Now, time to get to that game.
  • Just one thing before you suggest the VPN thing to people in the future. I'm looking into it online and what people are saying is that Privitize is malware and tends to force people to download viruses. Hotspot Shield seems to be okay though. Naturally, the one I downloaded was Privitize so I'm working on deleting that.

Just a heads up that Privitize doesn't seem to be safe.

I am glad it helped work around the problem.

They are both financed by being adware.
By choosing "custom installation" when installing privitize, you can choose not to install the unwanted stuff.
