Telltale Autumn Sale

Will you still play The Walking Dead: The Game Season 2 if Clementine is not in it?

edited June 2013 in The Walking Dead
The first season revolves around her, it would be strange for me to play it if she is not there at my side needing my protection.

I would give season 2 a shot, but without the drama and emotional toll caring for and protecting Clem it wont be nearly as good as S1, especially without Lee and Clem.

At any rate, I will be pissed if she is no longer part of TWD game.

If she isn't in the second season I'll be glad. If she is, Telltale will probably try to make us her caretaker again, which would just be tedious and dull. If she is in the second season, that's fine. But if we're her caretaker again, I won't play it. That would just result in reused story lines and would undermine anything that Lee did.

I'll probably play it either way, but without her I might just stop while at it, on the other hand if she's in how are the odds we see her die, because who knows the twd universe a little also knows happy endings don't exist there...

I'll tell you a very terrible thing, but at this moment Clem are only reason why I want play this game after Lee's death. But I'll bying this game anyway.

The Walking Dead is ongoing. It isn't like a Final Fantasy that begins and ends a character's story within the same narrative. The comic continues to follow Rick Grimes and his group of survivors. The TV show continues to follow Rick Grimes and his group of survivors. The game had better continue to follow Clementine as she is the only known survivor (others have a strong likelihood, but not 100% guaranteed). I will still give it a chance if she is nowhere to be seen, but I will be disappointed. As much as it would suck, I would even accept her death, so long as I know what happens to her.

That said, I do not want her to be the player character. Her personality has been set up already, and while it is influenced by Lee (us, the players), she maintains her own. I also do not want to reprise the role of her caretaker. Lee spent the latter half of the game teaching Clem to be a better survivor. If we have to bail her out of every bit of danger she finds herself in, then the appeal will just wear thin.

No. Clementine should be more competent this time around. Not a generic Bruce Willis action character level of badassery, but not the scared child she was before. She can use a gun. She has experience scavenging things. She has Lee's final advice to draw from to respond to situations now. She no longer needs to screech, run and hide behind an adult. I want her to be treated as another member of the group (given tasks to complete and a job to do when things get dangerous), not an objective to protect.

Someone picking up exactly where Lee left of protecting Clem or something like that would only serve to devalue the relationship he had with her IMO. I would be very disappointed by that. I'd like to see a more independent Clem feature at least a little though.

Beside season one had me caring for more than just Clem anyway, she was the main focus but they made some great side characters who i genuinely cared for (unheard of really from a video game, RIP Carley and Kenny)

I have faith that telltale can deliver us a new and equally involving story with or without Clementine. (though i have no doubt she'll have some part to play)

I hear you The Fallen I feel the same way!

But we don’t know if Kenny’s dead. Maybe he did the same as Lee kill a lot of zombies on his way and just smell like a walker, And the walkers just start eating Ben. And he got away. But the odds are low but its possible!

I agree with BlackBoxx 100% Was going to post something like that.

Saying it right now. If Clem isn't in season 2, I will be a douche to everyone in the group. I still want her to influence my moral decisions.

Fuck yeah I would, Season 2 is where we're suppose to give very few fucks.

Serious note, I'd be fine if Clem wasn't in it. I know people care about her, but I don't see any reason Telltale couldn't create other characters we'd get just as attached to. I agree with people who say they don't want a repeat of the Father/Daughter relationship, both because it does devalue the relationship a bit and because it would feel like a rehash of the first season.

I do like the idea of her being a supporting character though, and Lee's decisions from the first season influencing how she acts. Like if you were a hardass she's more assertive and quick to judge, or if you went out of your way to shield her she seems ill-prepared for the things that unfold. How'd she act could really make you think about you treated her in the first game. "Oh man, I was too nice." or "Yeah, I taught her right!" and so on. I'd be on board with that.

Yes, but I don't see why Telltale wouldn't take advantage of the opportunity to expand upon Clementine's character. We can see who Clementine is as a person and how Lee shaped her personality. That alone makes up for the "illusion of choice" that was presented in season 1.

Telltale, do the smart thing. Include Clementine in the group and in decisions, but don't make her a helpless little girl who needs to be coddled.

    I actually agree wholeheartedly.
I'm hoping that we might hear stories about a little girl with a pregnant woman and a short guy from people we meet, so we know she's okay. (A pregnant woman would stick out, once she started showing, and frankly, so would a little girl.)
But if the game has a bunch of the same old characters in it, I'm afraid it will get a little stale. Don't get me wrong - I'm sure TTG could make it interesting, but I would always have it in the back of my mind that the game would be much better with fresh characters.
I'm hoping we meet a whole new cast, with different dynamics and adversities. I went into quite a bit of detail about it in the speculation/suggestion thread, so I won't do it here, too. I just feel that if we play as an adult with a group with Clem, (a new character unattached), it would come off as creepy. Imagine if you tried to help Clem and she told Omid and Christa that that creepy guy was being nice again lol. Just wouldn't work, I don't think.

I'm sure Clem will return in some fashion. She's very popular as a character, and I don't see the point in the end-credits bonus scene if they weren't going to elaborate on it. I just don't know how big her role will be in season 2. Will she be a main character, or will you run into her later on?

In any case, I don't think you will be her hands-on caretaker this time around, as Lee had already done a great job teaching her to be a survivor throughout season 1, with handling Lee's death being her final lesson. After leaving Lee, she is completely alone, at least for a while, and has no other choice but to toughen up. If anything, maybe she will teach our new protagonist a few tricks.

I'd actually prefer not to be her caretaker in season 2 anyway, since you could never top the Lee/Clem relationship from the first season, and trying to plug in some other guy to that same role wouldn't be as great.

That is completely bogus. That is like saying 24, TWD, Breaking Bad or any other tv show gets stale because it has a bunch of the same old characters in it. No, people like a series because it follows a person or group of people, because it has the same characters in it.

    Just a thought

There's a quote about Harry Potter that I feel is appropriate here. I will quote it loosely and explain afterwards.

There shouldn't be more than 7 Harry Potter books because no one wants to read 'Harry Potter and the Midlife Crisis'.

The reason the quote struck me as so funny is because I was a huge HP fan (still enjoy the series quite a bit). But the reason the series is still enjoyable is because it had an end.
Lee's story is most definitely ended, and I believe that with it, Clem's story began. But I'm not interested in seeing her struggle with her first period, meet her first love, have her first kid, or any of that stuff. It might sound callus, but it's the truth.
TTG would be screwed either way if they continued to have Clem as a focus. Scenario one would be keeping her as she was when Lee knew her. Sweet, innocent in so many ways in spite of the situation, friendly, brave, strong. I can tell you right now - I'm 25 and if I had to shoot my father in the face, I'm going to lose a lot of my happy for a long time. Even if it was the "right" or "good" choice. It would be stale and unbelievable.
Scenario two would be her being toughened and/or depressed by the fact that she had to shoot her surrogate father or abandon him, knowing either way that he's dead (and depending on your game choices, walking around eating people).
Christa was a nice edition to the group and served her purpose well, but if I had to play an entire season with her, I'd be pissed. She was never my favorite character and I know she would get very stale for me very quickly. And though she would provide interesting drama (having a baby without getting eaten would be an accomplishment and neato chapter), I just don't see her being in some big group.
Think about it - when Lee's group came across them, it was just Omid and Christa. I think they prefer small groups. I think the only reason Christa bowed into going with them was because she already knew she was pregnant and was hoping to have some safety in numbers.
Watching TTG force characters that I honestly don't think have full-time playability personalities (if that make sense) be the main focus of season two would be both boring and disappointing.
Even Clem was not a full-time character. As far as I'm concerned, Lee was the only full-time character. Clem had a lot of face time because she was an important character, but I think the reason she was so important was because of her impact on Lee.
Whether you played the game as an asshole or a great guy, you were forced to take care of her. She made the player, by default, a better person.
Watching her from the sidelines as some other character under Christa and Omid's leadership is just a ridiculous idea. And yes, I do believe it would be stale.

    Hell yeah I'll play it.
The characters were awesome in season 1, but if they have the same writing team, I blindly trust them to come up with a new (maybe even better) story and characters I'll enjoy.

Games aren't TV shows. They're a whole different medium and need to be treated as such. Sure, it might be fine to go through a similar situation multiple times in a TV shows, it's not fun in a game.

Maybe, i dont think he actually wanted to live anymore though. Besides i actually think it would be odd to meet the season 1 characters when your not Lee. You'd see Kenny as your best friend, but your a stranger to him. Would be weird.

I think the end of the second season will match the end of the first. Only now we finish as those guys on the hill, which Clem saw in after credits scene.

If that would be the case I wouldnt mind. I still want to have Clem around, but if we finally meet up with her at the end, then that would be great, because season 3 would have the very much missed Clem. I see why people dont want Clem and other Characters, but having a crossover between seasons adds a lot i think and makes perfect sense.

I don't think season 2 would be as meaningful if Clem wasn't in it, so probably not.

Agreed that it wont be nearly as meaningful. But I will still give it a shot. I mean TellTale did amazing on this game, I need to see what else they have up their sleeve

Yes. Why not? Just because Clem isn't in it doesn't mean it won't be brilliant. :)
  • edited January 2013
    Yes, even more likely..
Having a Lee & Clem story in Season 1 is fine, since it was original.
But if you make another "Season" and do the same shit, it's not gonna be original. It will be a flop.

Agreed. I never wanted the responsibility of Clem in the first place. I would rather see her as older and more independent in the second episode if she's there at all.

I think very few people can play so well, like Clem, but for me the main thing - it is the story and i think i would plаy for testing the game

    Absolutely.

Just because the first season revolves around her doesn't mean the whole story has too. She will most likely be in season 2 but if she isn't that isn't a big enough reason to not play it.

    Unless she wrote season 1.

I would miss Clem and worry about what happened to her... and the few others who made it, but I have faith in Telltales. If the next game is at least close to as good as the last, I'll be more than happy. tbh this game was better than I'd ever thought it would, and I'd say is on my top 3 for gaming.

    I'd gleefully play it.

I'm in it for zombies, not because it's "Clementine's Magical Adventure Hour."
  • edited February 2013
Answering the OP's question, maybe. But not having Clementine play a part in s2 just seems...weird to me.
  • edited February 2013
I'd be disappointed, but I'd still play it. With the cliffhanger i want to see how all of Lee's teachings have trained Clem for surviving on her own, otherwise it was a waste of time.
  • edited February 2013
Shit, I'm gonna play Season 2 even if Larry's ghost is in it!
  • edited February 2013
Of course lol. I enjoyed taking care of her but she was in no way the sole reason I enjoyed the game.
  • edited February 2013
I just beat episode 5. Without getting into spoilers, Clementine needs to be in season 2. I'll play it either way, but I'm begging you! Please put her back in! Anyone who beat episode 5 will know what I mean.

She is like a canvas in the game! The adult characters change mildly depending on the circumstances they go through. She becomes a whole new person. I played all 5 episodes making decisions and painting her. I want to see what turns out of this.

I'm begging for her to return. :'(
  • edited February 2013
I'll still play the game Clementine or not. I'd prefer Clem's story continued at some point though.
  • edited February 2013
Yes. I like Clementine, but I'm not obsessed with her character, therefore this would not affect my interest in playing the game in any way. I like the general concept, I like the mechanics, I know that writers can produce great story with lot of gripping heart-breaking moments, I know that voice actors will be able to make characters alive and realistic, I know that Telltale will not fail our expectations. That's enough for me to want to play it, even if Clementine is not in it, which is doubtful and makes no sense anyway.
  • edited February 2013
Yeah, it would just be strange and sad without her. And plus why would they set the end of the last episode like that if they were leaving Clem? Too much has been done now to stop. And there is no quick easy way to tie up the loose ends of her plot...
